The successful teams next session will have a nucleus of players who have played together at least one season before . So we have McKenna Worrall and maybe Lawrence Gabriel . So maybe a new left back. Midfield we have Yates and Cafu ( Cafu got a contract last season so someone thinks he is good ) . I guess Brennan Mighten to develop further. So we need a midfield dynamo plus a winger and a forward or two.

doc m

1.) 19 May 2021 20:59:54
We need a manager first I'm worried who he will bring in with his tactics.

2.) 19 May 2021 21:02:09
Cafu is a nowhere player. I simply cannot see where his strengths lie. He can't tackle can't head can't shoot, is slow, and his passing forward shocking. get rid.

3.) 19 May 2021 21:54:02
But apart from that, he’s a fantastic player 😂.

4.) 20 May 2021 06:39:18
Perko lol sometimes he did quite well just poncing around looking a little tidy. But when you wear gloves when there's a nip in the air and your meant to be gritty midfielder, you have to be special. Average with NO end product, we need much much better players.

{Ed014's Note - I thought for a minute there you were talking about Paul Pogba! 🤣

5.) 20 May 2021 11:00:14
Agreed Rutland, not good enough. Think he was given a two year contract aswell, who makes these decisions. He offers nothing.

6.) 23 May 2021 20:18:22
Apart from Garner the whole midfield are dross. Get rid of the lot and start again.

7.) 28 May 2021 22:18:41
Id still keep sammy for the bench. Don't care what you lot think. He can change a game, pass or shot. On little wages. Looks lazy and can be. But one of the only players apart from garner sadly i thought could change a game from midfield. Just saying.

8.) 29 May 2021 12:00:01
I’ve got no problem keeping ameobi Bowie, just wish he could unplat his feet and learn to cross a ball.

10 May 2021 21:58:08
Can no one in the FA see the stupidity of the current arrangements between the bottom of the premier league and the Championship. It is an utter disgrace that teams are allowed to yo yo between leagues whilst teams like Brentford have to fight in the playoffs. What's the betting that WBA and Fulham will be promoted next season!
Ed The parachute payments they got season before last surely they don't get again .

doc m

{Ed002's Note - They do indeed get them paid again and I agree the system is unfair and the money should be spread out differently but the argument is based on the disparity of income between the two divisions could adversely impact the relegated side - there have been a few examples of clubs falling away in the past.}

1.) 11 May 2021 09:51:36
I think clubs fall way because the chairman takes out after the visit to the prem.

2.) 11 May 2021 14:34:06
The parachute payments are too big and last for too long.

The way forward is to lower the size of the payouts and only one second year at a lower rate to give teams time to reduce their wage bill etc. The clubs will still have an advantage from being able to buy lotts of decent players when in the Prem but will have to release some.

Problem solved. Except it is the Prem clubs who vote on the rules, so they won't change.

3.) 11 May 2021 18:53:48
Surely relegation is there as a punishment for not being good enough, as for a club being adversely affected, clubs need to do what we the general public have to do to when we have financial difficulties, cut their cloth accordingly.

4.) 12 May 2021 11:15:40
If clubs didn't spunk tens of millions after promotion in a desperate attempt to stay in the promised land then they wouldn't need parachute payments. All parachute payments do right now is allow clubs to be more reckless when they go up. They need to be stopped or heavily reduced, especially since the introduction of FFP.

As said above, I can see WBA and Fulham being clear favourites to go straight back up.

5.) 12 May 2021 17:44:44
I think what's wrong as well is that the parachute payment doesn't count towards ffp. Basically a double bonus.

6.) 12 May 2021 18:40:38
It would be better if the parachute payments were put in a pot that was shared out between all of the Championship and the relegated Premier league clubs based on their relative league position with the clubs relegated from championship missing out.

The concentration of cash in the yo - yo clubs is getting worse and as everyone is saying the three favourite next season to go up will be WBA, Fulham and Shef United. And the rest of the clubs cannot compete financial because of FFP.

I am afraid if they don't fix this then the championship will become predictable just like the premier league.

But I don't expect this will change.

7.) 13 May 2021 06:50:53
The EPL should mandate relegation clauses in player contracts reducing/ capping salaries. Some would demand relegation release clauses but that's fair enough. Promoted teams would find it slightly harder to compete in the prem, but they could redistribute parachute payments and make the EFL more competitive.

8.) 18 May 2021 16:58:12
Good post mctavish.

03 May 2021 22:23:49
Let's us try and sensibly predict our team for the next season . I make no apologies for the below
Samba, Christie, Soh, McKenna, Bong
( my opinion Worrall 15m, will be sold to A/ V to join Matty ) ( Ribeiro will also leave )
Colback Yates Sow Cafu, Ameobi
Grabban
I think also Johnson will be sold for 10m These are hard times for this club . The other young players out on loan will either sit on the bench or have further time on loan.

doc m

1.) 04 May 2021 08:34:26
Relegation then.

2.) 04 May 2021 19:58:18
Samba
Gabriel, Worrall, McKenna, New LB
Artur, Yates
Mighten, Carvalho/ New No.10/ Grabban, Johnson
Assombalonga

I predick Artur to have a good second season after being put on a decent fitness program close season and coming back ready to play (optomism/ hope more than predict haha)

3.) 04 May 2021 20:35:59
Red C, I'm hoping the same for Lolley. A good rest and hopefully he can come back a bit like his old self. No close season last year knackered him up, a major loss.

4.) 04 May 2021 23:43:51
Yes MV, we have basically been playing without our best player. It is easy to forget Lolley was previously our best attacking player by a country mile.

I just don't have a clue whether he is medically able to be the same player again. Fingers crossed.

I heard Nick Powell is out of contract shortly. I'd offer him a contract in a heartbeat. He has started 39 games this season with 12 goals and 3 assists! No transfer fee required. New number 1 problem solved!

5.) 05 May 2021 09:52:47
Good shout that, a goalscoring midfield player? Forest could definitely do with one if them.

6.) 05 May 2021 18:02:44
Interesting points particularly about Arter. Christie has grown really well and would like him perm. Worrall mckenna should be a great pairing if mckenna can stay fit. Samba not good enough sorry, too much of a prat. Lolley has issues that i doubt he can overcome. Grabban? Just can't see us starting a new season with his type, offers zero in the air and goes too wide and too deep. We have all seen enough of poor personal performances, and very little collective cohesion. If Hughton stays, which is not nailed on yet, i year contract, then the playing staff has not got the nucleous to take the club forward. Their has to be changes. Not what we want but what we need. This team has been hard to watch and for me that's not down to hughton.

7.) 06 May 2021 22:34:23
Its very much down to hughton rutlandhe picks and sets up the team to play a certain way.
Thats to play not to lose, anything else is a bonus.
Counting the days till he's gone.
Dreadful manager.

28 May 2020 09:13:42
Football - anyone know why according to the post we put in a 7 figure bid for a Cameroon centre back playing in France. I have lost count how many Centre backs we have currently but is that what SL wants or is it wishful thinking reporting.

30 Jul 2019 21:44:31
According to Wiki Samba Sow has joined Nottingham Forest!

doc m

1.) 30 Jul 2019 22:44:23
Wiki quite often makes a pigs ear out of false news? But then you do reap what you Sow?

2.) 31 Jul 2019 14:05:17
Very good!

3.) 31 Jul 2019 14:15:25
I see we are assembling the usual dross and nonentities that we always do, and next year we'll be getting rid of them, and getting more in. A never-ending circle it seems.

4.) 31 Jul 2019 15:25:46
How can we call signings dross before they have kicked a ball, the ones we have seen such as samedo have played well I just don't get it.

5.) 31 Jul 2019 15:47:33
Mir, Sow (if signed) are underwhelming, but then I thought that last year with Goncalves, Dias, Murphy, Ansarifard, Hefele, etc. etc. Ok let's watch them play but we have already got now about 15 players who we do not need in my opinion.

6.) 31 Jul 2019 16:43:38
Bit like me on Fifa!
😂😂😂.

Surely the world of football is going completely mad and someone should put a stop to it before it's too late. It is really disgraceful that these figures are banded around . Kane worth 150M, 400,000 a week is incredulous . This would make Lewis G worth 15 M. As I think he is a similar player type. Kane after seeing him at the Euros I would give < 30 M . Lewis 2- 3 M?

doc m

1.) 23 Jul 2021 09:31:00
Kane is vastly overrated in my opinion, the money is obscene, Man City a huge version of derby, no rules apply,

2.) 23 Jul 2021 14:14:09
If a club was prepared to pay £2-3M for Grabban then he wouldn't be a Forest player. You've gone mad if you think a player that age, who has barely scored in open play for a season and a half, is worth that.

3.) 23 Jul 2021 14:32:16
In my opinion it's obscene the amount footballers get in 2 weeks he'll earn more than some have to work a lifetime for and for what kicking a ball not like some that have to graft for a living.

21 Jul 2021 17:31:50
I don't think we should spin the wheel of fortune again and spend big or even at all. I think if you look back on preseason games, we have done well. Used the whole squad plus under 23s . Given Carvalhio time to prove himself yet again . We have seen players given time all over the pitch .

This is a true sign of a good manager . He is evaluating what we have and potentially what we need . Maybe he does have the squad capable of mid table or above. Let's be honest, McKenna and Mbe Soh aside we have not done well in the transfer market so I say stick not spin.

doc m

1.) 21 Jul 2021 17:38:42
We’ll be giving carvallho a ‘ chance to prove himself’ til he’s 90 at this rate, how much more time does this bloke need?

2.) 21 Jul 2021 21:07:57
Agree Stevie f. I spoke to someone who saw the Northampton game who said, given the opposition Carvalho 'was a joke'. Unfortunately reality has to be accepted that NFFC has been conned out of €13M - he's not quick enough, strong enough, confident enough or good enough for the Championship - not every footballer makes it at Championship level or we'd all be on £16K a week, simple as that. You would think he would be fired up to prove himself after his poor showing at Almeria but he still can't dominate low level opposition. I'm happy to have money on every away match he's included in we lose? Give someone else in the squad a chance and some game time.

3.) 21 Jul 2021 23:30:50
I think he had two good moments in the n’pton game - neither of them fantastic and didn’t score or create a clear chance. No better than several n’pton players who cost and earn peanuts in comparison to Jc, I would love him to prove me wrong but it’s only because we’ve invested so much in him. if a youth team player or an under 23 player had as many chances as he has he’d be gone. Forget the price tag and he’d be long gone 🤷🏻‍♂️ Over to CH to make the big decision-get rid or Is there still a glimmer of hope?

4.) 21 Jul 2021 23:39:43
I agree re Carvalhio but we are paying his wages after all. I think I went to most of not all of his matches for Forest and was not that impressed to be honest . However he is only 24 has undoubted skills on the ball, if CH can make him play as part of a team - good for CH. Alternatively we sue is agent as he is not the player we were sold - down the river Trent.

10 Jul 2021 16:50:45
Now there are a few who berated Gareth Southgate ( me included ) . He has achieved a final which we haven't had since I was 11. He is a quiet man with strong values who even with negative press has come through with the goods - whatever happens on Sunday, ( I think we will ) . It is my belief that Chris Houghton is a manager in a similar vein who probably would have made similar decisions to Southgate if he instead was in charge of the national team . So my view is this season the club will progress but maybe take a few years to achieve success . I seriously doubted England would ever get to another final and they have . So Forest will also be promoted to the premier league but expect some play off disappointments before.

doc m

1.) 10 Jul 2021 18:24:08
I hope Hughton has seen that giving young players the chance. They may play better than journeymen and loans, not included Gardner.

26 Jun 2021 17:32:50
I think it must be a good sign that as yet we have not plunged into the transfer market. CH we hope knows who he wants but no one will come because we are Forest as our reputation as a club crumbled a few years back. UK players will only come because of CH's reputation. What the Euros have made obvious is the importance of a striker, Lukako as prime example ( Britt like I thought ) . If Kane doesn't start scoring England . are not likely to progress much further
So I am sure Forest are scouring the country for a striker . Maybe we will end up with Britt.

doc m

1.) 26 Jun 2021 17:56:10
Wouldn't count on it mate.
We always get our "Business" done when it's too late. IE Murray.

2.) 26 Jun 2021 18:07:00
At the 11th hour Forest will panic and get 14 new recruits. ie Dad's Army.

3.) 26 Jun 2021 18:18:31
Skeggsy where are you mate?
You too Bowie Red!

7.) 27 Jun 2021 16:26:12
Great to see ya dream, this one can really go either way. If i was a betting man, (never again) I'd say pens .

08 Jun 2021 11:12:06
What should the club philosophy be when looking at players? Of course we want the next Roy K, Stan C . They are out there still so having a top scout is a must . So do we nab Peterborough's? may be cheaper than one of their forwards! The experiment with players their clubs no longer want has been an abject failure . I am not in favour of loans as they distort a side and give a false position . So I think we have to do some bartering ie sell a player where we have strength but invest in a league one striker paying 8-9 million . That would have such a positive effect on the whole club and supporters and season ticket sales! Combine this with some home grown maturing youth and the ' Ruffels ' like from League 1. The club no longer has the pulling power to get top players here, we must hope CH has got a reputation that attracts players to Forest otherwise it will be more of the same .

doc m

1.) 08 Jun 2021 11:28:36
Hoping with the change in recruitment we get players in who will at least have resale value. I think in future we as fans may have to be more patient with players too. Brentford have an advantage as their fans are behind developing players. Us forest fans having suffered so bad we look for short term and can quickly write of a player before even settling in.

2.) 08 Jun 2021 14:52:25
CH has got a reputation for attracting players doc, the wrong ones 😉

3.) 08 Jun 2021 16:05:36
Your getting very cynical Mr Bowie, not sure you rate manager 🤔.

4.) 08 Jun 2021 16:12:30
I see its saying that Mr M had spent 72 Million on the club even before lock down not including what he wanted to spend on ground improvements, shame he’s wasted most of that.

5.) 08 Jun 2021 20:18:44
Well at least it shows he's willing to keep the ship afloat.

6.) 09 Jun 2021 04:36:47
The trouble Redmarsh is the money is loaned to the club, it is going to be hard to sell up if we do not go up, he and the club are in between a rock and a hard place.

He is not just writing it off, should he decide to sell he will want that money back as part of the deal.

7.) 09 Jun 2021 07:12:38
Get forward I thought he did write off a substantial amount.

Whatever anyone says about the 19/ 20 team, the combination did well and came effectively 6th equal! Ok they messed up after the the virus induced break but that does not devalue the previous 40 games . My point bring players like Silva were an integral part of this team . People are all out for selling Cash, Worrall and Silva, on our past record I would seriously doubt we will get better more committed players. I think we are all risking throwing the baby out with the bath water!

I worry about our scouting system . It seems and wonder how much input SL has . Rumours are rumours and the NP has to write about something. Recently they have discussed Forest interest in a young portugese midfielder - well we have been down that road before . Twice bitten nice shy would be my view . Then there is the forward who was on Juventus books but now not playing . A centre back and most recently a right back . Are these scouts living in Europe I presume they must be. My view is to get Lyle Johnson at the club whatever the fee. When he came to the City ground he was the best player on the pitch and ran his heart out and scored a goal . He is young and knows the championship game. Of the overseas players we have signed only 2 have been very successful Samba, and Sow and 2 moderately success Silva And Figs. It seems salary is the most important concern before talent.

Yes this happened last season when Dawson was injured thank good ness we have Samba. If we don’t move higher in the table ie top 4 it will be harder to attract a good striker in January if that’s what we need. Psychology is important . Watson was slated last season now or at least was a hero - what changed! Carvalho is bereft of confidence? Perhaps a time in the reserves would help? Lolley is not playing like he can either. So the manager does not drop them after one gain as that would psychologically be bad . Vis a vis Bostock who had a great game in the cup against Derby but then apparently a bad game against Wigan. I think I would have chosen him last night rather than Carvalho. However Yates I think played well. Dilemmas for SL but a win against Reading is important to move up the league but psychologically a priority for the players.

Osborn has a loyalty and commitment to Forest that no one can deny. When he is allowed to play midfield he is a completely selfless player. Chris Wilder is a common sense manager and I think Benny will show the doubters on this site that he made a good move. AV and Sheffield will stay up next season due to their managers buying sensibly a few players to fit a successful team. We buy as many as we can and completely change everything! Good luck to Benny.

I agree SR . Successful teams do not flood their tabs with new players undermining the moral of the team as happened with us last season . Brentford are a prime example of how to sell their strikers buy a new one and get promoted . Leeds equally so . I would much prefer to see a settled team with a mix of youth and senior fight each game and end the season a good deal higher than last . Creating a high moral in a team is so important and surely is the bedrock for success.

Southgate is an FA man who has not skeletons hiding or illicit affairs in the offing . He, however had easy opposition both to the final of the Euros and the World Cup . Germany were not the Germany we know but about the only team of note we have beaten . Losing against Belgium and Spain . The lads gave a great account of themselves but in the end, football is like a game of Chess . Mancini out flanked Southgate it wasn’t the players that let him down . If let’s a pawn to advance it’s weaker than a knight etc .
For me, he should fall in his sword and resign . Can anyone out there imagine we will do better in Quatar. Our luck will not hold and he will need managerial guile which he does not have eg not playing Sancho or Grealish
My choice is Brendon Rogers a successful manager in the premier league.
