Excellent win for the Lionesses last night. I was hooked. They never give up. I've been a fan for years as most of you know. If Sir Gareth had got us to a World Cup Final and European Champions winners, then further finals and semi finals like Sarena Weigman has he'd be Lord Southgate or something instead of Sir Gareth.
She's missing several key players as well and her captain isn't fully fit after a long lay off. As for managing the men's team, well comrades, she couldn't do any worse than Tommy Turtle can she?
By the way, my daughter physio d the gals at a training camp at Loughborough University. Very good people and no prima Donna's in that squad. Although she did lend Lucy Bronze her shin pads and tape and never got them back.!

Stokey steady on mate, I’m assuming the bit about her managing the men’s team is tongue in cheek, the men’s and women’s games are virtually two different sports, the ladies are doing well, but this is a tournament where teams warm up by playing children’s teams ( 14 year old boys) and one getting beat 7-1, people really need to be more realistic about the ladies game, a decent Sunday morning men’s outfit would almost certainly win this tournament,

The standard of the women's game is very low indeed. ?.

Last year I made a comment on the BBC hys saying instead of the women's game competing at the same time for support as when the men are playing, they should play when the men's season finished!. The comment was taken down, and I got a email from the BBC saying it didn't aline with the BBC's views!.

If only the Men's England team had the same spirit. They give up the moment they start passing the ball backwards and side to side.

Stevie and Silkman I’m not being tongue in cheek entirely. I disagree that it’s two seperate games, though you are not comparing like with like. Obviously men in top class sport are going to be much stronger, faster and aggressive, but the rules and principles of the game are exactly the same.
Weigman is a very clever and shrewd coach with a long record of success with England and in her native Holland. she will never get the England men’s job because of the glass ceiling and machismo of the males in charge but it would be interesting if she did ……….

23 Jul 2025 20:27:25
Stokey sorry that's ridiculous, maybe they should interview the schoolmaster who was in charge of the under 14 boys team that beat the Swiss ladies national team, 7-1 or the 17 year old college boys coach that beat the at the time, world champion ladies team USA 5-2, the games are world apart, it’s like asking the bloke who runs the corner shop to be CEO of Apple, the, glass ceiling Is there for good reason in this case and she’s a hundred feet below it hopefully.

Stevie, git to disagree pal. A Sunday morning men's team would get nowhere near a top women's international team, especially Spain.
One of my coaching jobs when I worked in Spain was with a regional women's team and I can tell you they are technically excellent and move the ball very quickly.
The Sunday men's team would obviously be stronger but that's all.

It surely with any sport it’s entertainment. Womens football is just that. 11 m people watching. Sarina is an outstanding manager of women’s football and that is what her CV shows. So, better than any of her counterparts male and female in women’s football. No one on this site can say Sarina could not manage the men’s national. team. A belief that she is not able belongs to a bygone age. One day it will happen. It will start with lower leagues and progress onwards. Women have dominated most professions they go into and football is no exception.

23 Jul 2025 21:39:04
Good God women’s football? Utter garbage. Who would want to watch that….
11.) 23 Jul 2025
23 Jul 2025 21:46:39
Gazzi if that’s the case why are they choosing warm up games against basically children, and getting embarrassed, the fact that they choose to play boys tells you even they know their level, the USA were world champions, and got embarrassed by u 15 boys. and a team of over 50 ‘s veteran ex pro men who I believe put double figures past them, and the Swiss battered 7-1 by little boys, weigman might have a decent record in women’s football, but to compare it to men’s is quite frankly mind boggling,
12.) 23 Jul 2025
23 Jul 2025 21:53:52
Doc m how do you mean ‘ no one can say she can’t manage the men’s team, ? My opinion is she couldn’t it’s not realistic, , you can play the” dinosaur “ card all you like, doesn’t affect my opinion, it might happen one day but I doubt in the near future,

I'm in the pub and a few are trying to convince me that women's football is better than men's?
Really?,
Their argument is they are more honest and don't roll around abd fake injury
I've watched 20 mins tonight and neither side can put two passes together.
14.) 24 Jul 2025
24 Jul 2025 08:16:57
Women's football is nowhere near better than the men's game. It's not even National League level.
15.) 24 Jul 2025
24 Jul 2025 08:40:20
No one is saying that women’s football is better than men’s. it is simply not true. A man will always beat a woman at a sporting event of any kind. However 11 million people watched a recent match. The final will top that number ie it is a very popular sport.
Now more contentiously Sarina vs Gareth. Patently a football manager sex is irrelevant, it’s how they do their job. Sarina is probably the most successful
Manager of women’s football. Gareth and his predecessors?
16.) 24 Jul 2025
24 Jul 2025 09:19:29
Doc m first of all mate I didn’t say it couldn’t be entertaining, I can and do, watch the lowest men’s Sunday game and enjoy the watch, if two teams are relatively evenly matched it can be a good game, but tts about levels, sarina has been successful in competition that is much less competitive than the men’s competitions, sex is not irrelevant, the men’s game, the players have different mental and physical make up, if any one thought a woman would be successful managing a men’s team it would have already been tried, most chairmen/ owners would appoint a Martian if they thought it would be successful, did I hear you or anyone else shouting for sarina when the Forest job was vacant? No not really
17.) 24 Jul 2025
24 Jul 2025 09:30:21
I think some of you are missing the point here lads. I’m not saying that Sara Weigman is to PLAY for the England men’s team, merely Manage/ Coach it. Of course women’s teams ( in any sport physical sport ) can’t compete against men’s teams, as I said in my post. It’s not like for like. But intellectually, tactically, personality wise, she has all the attributes to be successful as an England men’s manager.
Incidentally, she took over as England women’s coach from Phil Neville, an abject failure, and achieved massive success with basically the same players.
Stevie, mate, your remark about appointing the head master of the boys school team who beat Switzerland isn’t far wrong. Stuart Lancaster played rugby union at quite low level and was a sports teacher when he was chosen to be England Manager. He was very successful in laying the foundations for Englands later succsss under Eddie Jones and others.
Many successful managers at top level had, at best, mediocre playing careers, Jose Mourinho, Arsene Wenger, Tony Pulis and even our own Steve Cooper bless him to name a few.
Mate, if you can fly a Cessna you can fly an airliner ( as per 9/ 11), the principles and operation are basically the same. Hey, a woman recently won the Grand National didn’t she? I don’t follow horse racing but I’d imagine the horse carried her over the fences not the other way round ……… ??????.

On a serious note, they should lower the crossbar in women's football the goalkeepers just aren't tall enough to stop anything going in the top corners.

This is a good debate. So I think we agree women’s football is an entertainment that a large number of people in the UK watch and enjoy. This cannot be denied.
My next point is that Sarina is probably the best manager of a women’s football team and in particular EnEngland. This cannot be denied either.
Just as Gareth got a knighthood, Sarina should be made a Dame. My argument is that she has been a better manager than Southgate, in doing her given job. Logically if there are now, leaders in the armed forces, medicine, Houses of Parliament, large international concerns, one day there will be a female premier league manager.
26.) 24 Jul 2025

Doc m difference is women are fast tracked in some industries to tick boxes, please don’t tell me you’re holding Angela Rayner and Rachael reeves up as examples of successful females, Armed Forces, ? didn’t want women around in some of the situations I got in occasionally in my time being involved, Cressida Dick was an abject failure at the head of the Met, I’m all for a meritocracy, if ladies are good enough promote them, don’t patronise them by promoting them just because they’re women,

Stokey not sure what point your trying to make about the grand national winning rider, Rachael Blackmore competed against men in the same race, , she didn’t keep spouting about how she was as good as men, whilst competing against women in pony racing, she took them on at their own game, and proved she was as good, if the women footballers want the same money, they might try to do the same, and prove they are equal, which everyone kmm no one’s they can’t,
