One thing I really don't get is why are we conceding so many early goals? Are the players really not switched on from the start of the game? Is it a protest from the players about MW's tactics, so concede a soft goal to give him the message? You would have thought, or hoped MW would have them fired up comming straight from the dressing room? I'd also like to know why MW rates Walker more than Vellios? Walker is one player I'd be happy to see MW convert to a winger, as he may have more success than being a centre forward.

1.) 16 Oct 2017 14:44:56
What about Brereton as well. His progress at Forest has gone backwards.Played out of position or not at all.
Zac Clough, 3.5 million, scored for fun at Bolton and think most fans excited about him signing. Gone backwards. Joe Worrall, like Brereton breaks into first team, awesome. Now gone backwards. Why?

2.) 16 Oct 2017 17:23:09
Brereton been very disappointing this season not seen much of Zach but I was excited at his signing and velios should now be given a chance up front because were missing a poacher I just hope things get better.

3.) 16 Oct 2017 19:02:32
Velios is a much better player than the strikeforce we put out. Butvits warburtons way or no way!!!!

19 May 2016 20:43:56
As Leicester is very much the in word at the moment, does anyone have any thoughts on players we could be bin robbing from the teams that went down? Zach Clough I think could do a job for us, and chips in with goals?

1.) 19 May 2016 21:13:57
Injury prone.

2.) 19 May 2016 21:45:01
Would be right at home with us then! Sorry, couldn't resist that one!

3.) 19 May 2016 23:19:09
Johann Berg Gudmundsson from Charlton.
Goalscoring midfielder. Would be useful.

4.) 20 May 2016 01:37:03
And he would be good for shirrt sales you would have to pay a ssmall fortune for his name on a shirt.

5.) 20 May 2016 13:36:39
He wasn't very useful to Charlton eh Fred?

6.) 20 May 2016 15:13:31
Haha IBM. Been waiting for that reply for over 12 hours and knew it would come lol!
One man doesn't make a team.
He scored more than any of our midfielders and i've always thought he wad a good player (very good at free kicks) and wouldn't mind seeing him in a Forest shirt.

7.) 20 May 2016 15:34:07
Then I will trust your excellent judgement Fred 😳.

08 Jun 2015 21:16:08
Given our squad as it stands right now, I don't think it's too bad. Personally I think we need another left back, a defensive midfielder and a striker. Given our position with the embargo, you'd hope that would be good enough for at least mid table finish. If we got offers for Lansbury, I would take the money as I can see Reid or Osborne doing that role better than him. O'Hara could be a good freebie for us, he's looking to rebuild his career, and until Cohen is back, he could be good cover. I'm not a fan of Mackie, but he's back with us, and can see him covering for Burke. It also sounds like Abdoun could also play a part again. What do others think about our squad at the moment?

1.) 08 Jun 2015 21:47:36
Murdoch it is not what the squad looks like at the moment, it is what it looks like at the start of the season that matters.

2.) 08 Jun 2015 21:58:04
Murdoch: Agree with all of your thoughts. Three key positions from a recruitment point of view are Left back, DM & striker.
I would sell Fox, put Cohen at left back & recruit a back up.
Get a goal hold up striker in the Callum Wilson mould.
The season shaper for me is a DM in the Leadbitter mould who is constantly in a position to receive & build attacks. We need a leader. Could be Mills, could be the new DM.

Lichaj Mills Hobbs Cohen
Burke Reid Osborn Antonio

I understand the cost implications of the embargo & the fragility of our squad. With some luck & the right acquisitions we could just make mid table.

3.) 08 Jun 2015 22:16:15
Cjay. So no room for HL? We might have to make do with Mancienne as DM for now till we find the right player?

4.) 08 Jun 2015 22:33:14
Im with Murdoch on Lansbury. i'd listen to offers.

Worst kind of player for me is the one whos got it but only gives it when things are going his way. he's deceiving you out your hard earned & betraying the shirt. He ain't alone either.

We need a clear out of the precious ones.

5.) 08 Jun 2015 23:02:30
As far as I understand Reid has had further surgery . Cohen is just no longer reliable to keep fit so we must assume he won't be there . Fryatt and Blackstock will be back to the days of Henderson and Cox. Mancienne position is as a centre back so either he or Hobbs partners Mills. I guess Lichaj and Fox as the backs but ideally a new left back please. Mid field must be osborne Antonio Lansbury teshe Burke with Fryatt / ward up front. If we are not careful the side will be nearly the same as the one that lost many matches under Pearce and then Dougie. Give me a reason to be optimistic for this season

6.) 08 Jun 2015 23:04:52
It's not so long ago that people were arguing that this squad was good enough for a top six finish, now all of a sudden it's rubbish and only good enough for mid table at best, come on lads and lasses, this squad is still basically the same squad, so therefore it is good enough for a top six finish at least

7.) 08 Jun 2015 23:42:54
Its a team that relys on the fitness of Reid Cohen & Hobbs for its success.

We started well results wise under Pearce but the football was unconvincing. Then the wheels came off. Freedman comes in & the results come back, then the wheels come off again. Save for new manager bounce we would be in league one by now.
This is becoming cyclical & these same players will see for the next manager too unless we change the mentality of the place. Cardiff at home told us all we need to know about what we actually have.

8.) 09 Jun 2015 06:57:22
People keep going on about a striker but has everyone forgot how good Fryatt is, or is that just me? Obviously no good to anyone if he's injured, let's hope he stays fit. Somebody mentioned pairing him up with Ward, there's goals there, surely.

9.) 09 Jun 2015 08:13:56
With Fryatt it is play for 2 games then rest for 1. Other wise his body can not handle it.

10.) 09 Jun 2015 09:22:17
Anyone else noticed why opposition central defenders are more than happy to play a high line on us & double up on Antonio.
Its because we have no pace up front to push them back.

Keeno made the point before. Fryatt & Blackstock aren't going to frighten anyone, furthermore we have no pace coming from midfield. We could do with some interim pace until Britt comes back.

11.) 09 Jun 2015 09:31:29
doc m: here's three reasons: Kelly(LB) Grant (M) Walker(S).
Alas though it depends on DF's desire to blood them early and our resident professionals to help them develop, not throw their toys out of the pram.

12.) 09 Jun 2015 10:16:54
Cjay I think you are right, you need pace in midfield and up front. You also need people that can read the game, that know where to place themselves, and know how, and when to make the right pass. Fryatt is the only fit striker we have for that. Blackstock is a impact substitute who will ruffle feathering the last 30 to 35 minutes.

13.) 09 Jun 2015 13:21:25
I went to the youth cup game last season vs Tottenham. I have to say we had a few good players there. Cash looked good as did our lb and a couple of others. Burke (O) looked a little bit off in that game but the service was poor. I think with a clever use of these youngsters sprinkled in throughout the season there's no reason why we can't push the Top end of the Table.

28 Apr 2015 21:01:59
Going by all the comments on here about DF, I guess opinion is still divided on whether he is the right manager for us? I have to say when he was first appointed, my initial reaction was disappointment, but after hearing his first press conference, I have to say I was impressed with what he said. Personally I think he has done a good job so far, and he's still saying the right things that as a fan, I want to hear. I think next season will be tough for us, but I hope he is given a chance to show what he can do. The point I really wanted to make was this. When he was at Palace, he built a team that ultimately got promotion and reputation for himself as one of the up and coming Managers. His move to Bolton, in hindsight was disastrous for him as he clearly thought he was going to bigger club with more prospects. Little did he know what was round the corner. After getting panned and sacked at Bolton, that reputation he gained kind of went overnight. I would therefore say DF has a lot riding on being successful with us as well, as he looks to rebuild his own reputation as an up and coming manager. There is a high level of expectation at our club, but as others have mentioned already today on this site, Eddie Howe took 6 years to get Bournemouth up.

1.) 28 Apr 2015 21:22:06
He has a big task this summer. Think as long as the team performs as he has already stated they should and keeps us in the mix all will be fine. Massive job for him and exciting times ahead.

2.) 28 Apr 2015 23:34:07
I like him and think he is a good manager to use a small budget. He also seems to take a no nonsense approach which l like.

I do wish he wore a suit though, on match day the manager should look smart in my opinion.

3.) 29 Apr 2015 08:33:21
Its simple psychology in my opinion. Dougie presents a more hands on approach in a track suit as apposed to the more aloof style of a suited manager. Might sound like rubbish, but i'm just trying to squeeze myself into the minds of the players.

4.) 29 Apr 2015 09:03:56
It's not he clothes it's what's inside them that counts. The club needs 18 months of stability. I'm not for or against DF nor SP but we need to get the basis of NFFC to be stable and consistent with a coherent team and good youngsters coming through all the time.

5.) 29 Apr 2015 09:48:31
A green keeper's jersey and training trousers were good enough for the greatest of all. Working clothes.

6.) 29 Apr 2015 11:42:31
It's what goes on at the training ground where they are all dressed for business in the same kit, not how they project themselves on match days!

7.) 29 Apr 2015 11:58:56
What we need is consistency, you are right - Dougie may be the man to do that. He will be judged across the first few months of the season, but his real test will come after those first three months when we begin to have our dip that comes every season without fail - can he avoid it?

I don't see why Dougie can't do well with us, every manager would have limited resources and he is very much a motivator it seems.

I'm nervous and excited for next season already.

14 Apr 2015 21:22:06
I was a little surprised to read certain comments below suggesting that over the years we have had X managers and X players that should have achieved us promotion by now. I think it's quite an arrogant thing to suggest, and is partly the reason why us reds often get ridiculed by other fans when things go wrong at our club. Regardless of who we had as the manager or what players we had, I don't think that gave us a divine right to walk out of the Championship. The truth of the matter is to get out of this league, we need an established team where one or two better players come in each year, that make that team stronger and capable of challenging for a top 2 finish. In the last few years, we have been forced to do a rebuilding job before each season, and have to go through the whole letting the team "gel". DF has suggested several players will be told to move on in the summer, so to me this suggests another rebuilding job is ahead. Whilst there is high hope and optimism for a promotion run next season, I think being more realistic aiming for a top 10 finish would be a good achievement. The first objective is to hold onto key players in the Summer, then allow DF to build a competitive team, which may take 2 or 3 years if not longer with the FFP. I would like to see younger players given a go now, but it's important to have that mix of senior pro's in there as well. Maybe next season is a time to lower our expectations and just see what it brings? What do other fans think?

1.) 14 Apr 2015 21:57:58
An agree from me. Problem is for every fan like yourself there is a fan who wants success that is immediate & unconditional. For a club that throws everything at promotion every season it will take a huge shift in mindset.
Personally, I would like a committed leader in the middle of our pitch & a team around him that gives everything for the cause. If I get that, I don't really care where we finish.

2.) 14 Apr 2015 22:12:13
I agree with a lot of what Murdoch say,s but the main reason we have struggeld for so long is shots in the foot, bad choice of players and managers, and managers out of control.
We fans are really frustrated because we,ve seen smaller clubs and clubs of similar size promoted,we must be the biggest club not to have been in the PL in the last 16 years but we,ve stuck by the club seen our best players sold and players with no pride in the shirt and such a lot of cash wasted, the answer as got to be stability with people who have the same feeling for the club as we do!
This as never been built j,ust hope it can be done

3.) 15 Apr 2015 13:10:48
Agree with Murdoch and Cjay. It takes time and leadership to build a team on and off the pitch. There are no quick fixes. One player doesn't make a club nor two nor three; the team has to be just that and not a bunch of egos trying to go elsewhere. We should all be prepared to see what DF's leadership is like and whether he can deal with the players who are coasting, wasting time, lacking enthusiasm and vigour and only in it for money and kudos. He also has to carry the owner with a definite club plan long term.

4.) 15 Apr 2015 17:53:11
Unfortunately this all stems from the fact that we have never had a proper structure in the club to scout, recruit and retain talent going back to the Doughty era.

While we do not have divine right to be promoted many other clubs have sorted out their club infrastructure and achieved long term success on considerably less financial resources than both Doughty and Fawaz have thrown at Forest.

The players that have past through this club and having success with our rivals this season shows how woeful our recruitment policy has been.

We still have a long way to go to get this right which is why I fear DF has not got a hope of getting us promoted next season!

Trouble with Ward though red, yes he will run all day for you, is a bit nasty, but has no end product. Also some of his efforts on goal have been shocking. I'm not sure bringing him back is the answer. I'd rather see us having two quick wingers that would be the outlet for our "under pressure" playing it out defence!

Red, you have been saying for weeks our midfielders are too small, and we need bigger players to compete! How does pint sized Jamie Ward resolve the issue!? I doubt Warbo will risk playing him now, with his dodgy hamstring, one match could see him back on the treatment table for months! I think he will be moved on in January.

We will have to agree to disagree on this one, as I really don't see that Eric raises the standard of the team. An ok championship player at best. If we went back to the last time we had a good back four, so I'm thinking Morgan, Chambers and probably Cohen at left back. Add Eric to that, and ask who is the weakest player? For me it's Eric all day long. Fast forward to now, and suddenly he's the best we have?! No, because you can pick 3 others ahead of him. This is my point about having better calibre players. We have been so poor in this area for years now, some of you have almost accepted the lower level as the new standard!

Redman, unfortunately, due to the many years of decline at our club, I think we now have to accept that any decent players we get, or produce out of the academy are going to be sold to a bigger club with money. The hope is with the academy you produce a conveyor belt of talent. We therefore can't just look to sign average players as we are worried about them leaving at some point in the future. With Eric, we have had a very poor defence for over 2 seasons now, and the fact he's standing out as the best player, I think is not a reflection of his ability, but more how poor our defence has become. I see too much sentiment attached to this player, and as a business we want the best we can get. If we want progression, this is all part of it.

I'm with FF79 on this one, Gary Neville has no personality, and is one of the dullest pundits out there. I'm more likely to tune out when he's one!

The thing with Darikwa is some Burnley fans really rated him, and saw a big future ahead with them. He started a few PL games, and then appears to have lost his place, and his form went downhill. Was he over achieving at Burnley, and has Warbo taken a punt that he can hit those levels again?

I imagine the brief for January will be the same as before. Younger players, or senior pros that will fit in with our wage structure. I guess a lot will also depend on who we can move on. I suspect Hobbs, Mills, Ward and Vellios are the obvious people.

The dynamics of the midfield, and the defence are the areas that need improvement.
