According to press reports Reading have had a bid of 1.2 million accepted for Billy Sharp

upper Clough

1.) What a pity!. I feel a bargain at £1. 2 m aswell. What about le fondre, any News on what he`s doing ed? {Ed034's Note - none sorry

2.) Nothing stopping us bidding as well

3.) Seen this from a number of sources now, its true. Hope we can bring in a striker who is as good as him

4.) Looks like we are going for freebies and cheapies, so that rules us out for Sharp!
Cant see him coming back, obviously Billy boy does not want him here!

5.) I get the feeling that Billy is not keen on him.

6.) Says in the evening post matt green has been on trial at birmingham. why are we not also having a look, he has been scoring for mansfield. {Ed034's Note - because we can get better

7.) Think spending may depend on weather a sponsor is sorted out

8.) If you can get players in on a free all the better. Billy will have a budget & I hope he saves as much as possible to put towards the 1 or 2 players that will make a real difference

9.) Yes there may be better, but we have offered tudguy a contract. {Ed034's Note - we need fourth and fifth choice strikers. we are not man utd and are able to have four star strikers who are happy to spend time on the bench, as they know they'll get a lot of cup games to play in.
ideally we should have three very good strikers and two who are championship level but are happy to be used as back up

10.) If it's true - in reality - that (as someone says above) that "we are going for freebies and cheapies", how do we (all) countenance this with Fawaz's alleged vast 'uncountable' wealth? (according to his propagandist-in-chief pseudo-journalist Natalie Jackson)

11.) Spending large sums on players is finished. Players such as Simeon Jackson for nothing would be as good a purchase as Billy Sharp and he didn't do a great deal under BD so maybe he doesn't want to spend a large amount on him.

12.) Just because we've signed albeit three players on free transfers, doesn't necessarily mean we are only going to sign free agents; does it?

13.) I think Billy Sharp would have made a real difference.

14.) He's tweeted himself he hasn't had a medical at Reading

15.) In reply to the us going for freebies and having "uncountable wealth" there is as Fawaz pointed out something called the Financial Fair Play which we will need to adhere too. There are plenty of very good freebies out there and not only in England

16.) When will you learn that we have a budget because of FFP?

What's wrong with picking up international players like Jara for free and spending the saved transfer fee cash on the huge wages it takes to get these players to sign?

Maybe we should take risks with lower league "stars" and pay them 8k a week and see how that works out?

Some of the rubbish written on here makes me feel ill! {Ed034's Note - imagine some of the stuff that I don't add on lol :-/

17.) Simple really, Reading will have a big pot of parachute money and can still offer better pay than most Championship clubs. Sharp was a likeable guy who scored a few for us but I cannot blame him for going south for bigger money. let's see what happens, I was pleasantly surprised by Jara and no doubt there will be other signings, which hopefully will surprise us and be welcolmed. Fawaz asks us to be patient, more to come. {Ed034's Note - he hasn't gone to reading as he has just tweeted there is no truth about any medical

18.) Could someone quickly (if there is a quick way) tell me how the financial fair play works?

19.) That is a good post. Yeh remember, the like of Reading and Wigan have a big parachute payment pot. Wigan can easily afford Lansbury as can Reading with Sharp.

Some championship clubs trying to sign Johnny Russell, fee 700,000 hope we, re one of them.

upper Clough

1.) Prefer a Jack Russell to bite at legs in the team!

2.) Would be a great signing, don't think it's true though

3.) Its on a tv website, dundee have confirmed it, they say its a leading championship team

4.) Would've thought they would wait until his broken leg is sorted out.

5.) I don't know too much about him TBH. Is he good?

Phil.

6.) Great finisher and has pace, plus good with his head

would be a good signing.

7.) Russell is over-rated, the boy Mackay-Steven is a better player at Dundee Utd

8.) The one to watch is young Ryan Gauld.

9.) Russells recovered from his broken leg, he played in Dundee UTD's last game. Cracking player, very fast very good in the air very good finisher. his pace would definitely add something new to the attack. Get him and Sharp in and bring his mate Mackay -Steven with him - now HE would be a good signing

Has Chalobah gone back yet?

upper Clough

1.) I think it lasts till 28th jan

2.) Thought he had already gone and lined up to go to boro

3.) It says on a Chelsea site that they are going to send him to a club that will use him properly! What do they mean by that? Thought he did ok but not great. One for the future maybe

{Ed034's Note - I presume one that will play him more than us.

4.) Yeah I get that but surely it's up to us how we use him. Just seemed like they were having a bit of a dig at us. Oh we'll!

{Ed034's Note - let them. At the end of the day he couldn't force his way into our starting 11. I would put that down to the form of our midfield

With the talk about Rhodes fans should remember Fawaz has put 40 million of his own money into the club since he took over, the wage bill has risen by a large amount and he has probably putting over 1 million a month into the club.
It may well be that we need to get some off the wage bill before anyone comes in, Billy like most managers isn't interested in the financial well being of the club but should remember how well he has been backed and not go down the advise and recommend route again.
Before anyone starts i'm a billy fan.

upper Clough

1.) This is well worth bearing in mind. Inevitably the "business man" in Fawaz will be pouring over Billys wish list, and rather than conceding the money, looking at the options to finance it. With FFP in mind, I suspect all the business will be done later in the window, giving us optimum time to offload some of the dead wood. Likewise any realistic bids for Darlow, Lascelles or Lansbury will be considered as money needs to be reinvested in a DM & a striker. Think Fawaz has proved he ain't going to just throw money at this without a strategy.
CJ

2.) This is what I was alluding to in my post yesterday. Its ok bringing in a couple of expensive players but our wage bill must be very steep for a club in the championship. So 4 or 5 deadwoods off the payroll and then we go again!
Rutland Red

3.) If we could have Chalobah till the end of the season then I think we could happily let Moussi go. Gillett has gone back out on loan so that should be his wages off the bill. Al Rashidi is surplus as is Miller so there are areas where we can thin out the squad. 3 out with 1 quality player in would do it for me. Would be very happy with Wickham.

I loved Kenny Burns as a player but as a pundit he is hopeless, we've played our best football of the season in the last few games but he wants us to change to 4-4-2, its a good job he didn't manage us.
Who was the journalist that Billy challenged to a race

upper Clough

{Ed034's Note - totally agree. I don't even bother reading anything he writes now

1.) 06 Jan 2014 10:46:51
Billy challenged Neil Moxley of the Mail to a race

Just read the statement regarding the incident on tuesday.
Its about time Billy stopped this silly war with the press and concentrated on winning some football matches, I know the media are arrogant and think they are above the law but its a war he can't win.
I like Billy and think he is the best man for the job but 4 wins in 15 isn't good enough and his only focus should be on improving that, we have been unlucky with injuries and some of the football has been really good so I have every faith that we will mount a serious promotion challenge but let's have the press just talking about the football.

upper Clough

{Ed034's Note - forest have been slated over what happened so they have released a statement explaining what they are doing. I cannot fault them for that one bit.

1.) Thats fair enough, but is it becoming a distraction, on the last twelve games we are third from bottom, I know we aren't in reality but we are sliding down the league not going the other way

{Ed034's Note - like I said. they have said nothing and they get slated, so they release a statement to there fans and they get slated. this has nothing to do with our league position.

2.) It's seems to me it only bothers certain fans. I don't believe for one minute anything press related has any impact on how billy does his job or the way the team perform on the pitch.
Pk

{Ed034's Note - the only thing it does, like you have mentioned, it gives certain fans the fodder they want to start spouting off

3.) I wasn't intending to spout off, i'm a fan who goes to matches but some things concern me at Forest and this media war is one of them, if that makes me not a true fan that's fine.
One thing I don't do is go to matches and try to destroy players as some persons did with Harding on friday, it was disgusting to hear the abuse aimed at one of our own players.

{Ed034's Note - im not saying you are. im saying it gives folk who have another agenda other than just wanting the club to do well, something to use against us

4.) I agree with upper Clough that BD and the club should bury the hatchet with sections of the media. Cannot believe all those negative emotions help Forest or the players, Bearing personal grudges just saps energies which should be put into getting better results on the pitch.

{Ed034's Note - the media are being bullies

5.) Do you actually read any of the drivel that's written in the post?

For example go and look at the last few lines of the piece written about the game against Millwall.
No way would they have said that about us in the past? Everything now has a feel of barbed criticism so there are two sides at work here.

The comments regarding the ref being biased towards us and us being lucky were left for the final few lines of the article to leave you on a down note.
you are then left to go away from the piece to make your own judgements against the club being a failure.
This is very clever, subtle and calculated it is also very damaging but most wouldn't appreciate that?

Just because journalists think they have power doesn't mean they actually do. Look at the readership figures and the state of this once proud but now failing excuse for a paper!

Why not get on at the Post and show your outrage? Maybe you didn't take the time to actually read the articles with a discerning eye or are not able to do so? That's not a criticism but please don't keep taking the side of the skilled and wordy against the people who's side your meant to be on?

The post is a dying institution and as much as they don't want to admit it everyone involved in writing for the web knows this? The club are not wrong in realising that they don't need a provincial rag to best promote an international brand?

The death throes of the post need not be a concern for the fans of the club and the sooner the dinosaurs who have their egos invested in this little game realise this the better!

They are the typical kicking and screaming little brat that mummy is ignoring. Shame the passing crowd (who know nothing of the situation) decide to take an interest in a harmless, passing, non event and try to give it legs.

When fawaz bought the club, Arthur and the pyes had a rival bid, however they failed to match the bid or place a deposit, 5TH to 8th had a connection with Arthur, this is why since the takeover 5th has used various forums under different names to criticize fawaz whenever the club is experiencing difficult times, he will never mention the good fawaz has done, the best example for me is the signing of Cohen, Patterson, etc on long term contracts when previously they would have left for nothing, the ground was neglected for years fawaz is upgrading the ground, we have a owner who is forest mad and will do everything in his power to get us in the premier, we really are lucky to have him as a owner.

You can understand the mistrust of fawaz by some, after all we have had years of being lied to, the club had a CEO before who was an absolute disaster, in all fairness fawaz who has made mistakes is trying to put right years of mismanagement, I would like to see a CEO and dof in but fans should show some patience the club was a shambles when the al hawasi family bought it it will take time to put right

Clough a shadow of himself without Taylor, absolute rubbish, Taylor left in 82 when we had already started to decline, in 84 we reached the UEFA cup semi finals before being robbed by a bribed referee, financial problems meant that side was broken up but Clough rebuilt the side with the likes of Webb, Walker, Pearce who was good considering how thick he is, we finished second in the league, won the league cup in 89, 90 losing finalists in 92, reached the fans cup final in 91 lost in the 88, 89, semi finals to an outstanding Liverpool time, yes we were relegated in 93 mainly due to not replacing Walker and Sheringham, Cloughs alcohol issues did begin to overcome him but between 86 and 91 we were one of the top three teams in the country, developed excellent young players and were hailed for the quality of our football, I'm sorry Ed 001 your lack of knowledge of our club makes it difficult to take your comments seriously

upper Clough

{Ed001's Note - if you say so, but I will take pros words over your biting whines any time.}
