I'm surprised at such negativity around Pearce from a couple of posters.

I think it will be a big risk for Fawaz to take on Pearce, especially in view of the timing (if Forest get promoted, that could open up the list of potential suitors). But here are my reasons why he would be a good choice.

1) There is no guarantee that Pellegrini, Mourinho, Wenger, et al would get Forest promoted. There's a lot of luck involved in managing a successful team. Liverpool may well not have been happy with Rodgers' past record; at Reading he was very iffy and at Swansea, you could say he inherited someone else's team. But they aren't complaining now. Pearce should be assessed on his performances as Forest manager (if he takes it of course), not because of his record as player manager and then at Man City.
2) Pearcey will undoubtedly give the fan base a MASSIVE lift. I'm not a season ticket holder, in fact I live in Mexico and find it hard to get to many games a year (boxing day fixture is my annual pilgrimage) but I cannot imagine the atmosphere on the first home game of next season. I, for one, will make damn sure I get a ticket if he takes the job. Maybe sentiment is temporary, as some say, but the players will feed off it and it will create a huge buzz. And if Forest start next season well, maybe they'll carry it on.
3) I have doubts about him as a manager, but I was fortunate to see Team GB at Wembley. He got a group of lads who never played together much before and turned them into quite a decent team. They played attractive, direct (not constantly passing between defence), fast paced football and did pretty well over all. If he inherits the current squad with no injuries and just one out and out striker more, I believe he would have little difficulty in getting them to play direct, attractive football.
4) Pearce will always be held with huge fondness because of his 12 year affiliation with the club. That won't change. If he does become manager and it goes a little bit pete tonge, he will still be remembered with fondness and I'm sure will still be welcome back at the City Ground. If you don't agree, then you're weak.
5) Finally, he played under the best manager ever. He was assistant to one of the best Italian managers ever, he played with some of the best players in the world. That will have had some influence on him. Maybe it has not gone as well as he would have liked in previous managerial roles. But with the backing of Fawaz (he will get alot, initially) and with the development of a team around him (coaches, DOF, CEO, etc. ) he will have all the ingredients to be successful. BD had all those ingredients too but he throw them away because he was a child.

There are lots of good managers out there who just need an opportunity and backing to show what they can do. I see no reason why Pearce cannot be a huge success at Forest.

Thanks Ed.

{Ed001's Note - as someone who spends a lot of time dealing with coaches and players due to this job, there are a few things I have been told that would worry me if I were a Forest fan, regarding Pearce. Number one is he is, to be frank, thick. He doesn't have tactical knowhow because of a lack of intelligence to be able to analyse opponent's weaknesses and strengths effectively. Number two is his coaching is terrible, he is all about passion and forgets the technique that is needed to play at the highsst level. Now, in my opinion, both of those issues can be solved by appointing the right backroom staff around him. I think Pearce can be an excellent figurehead for the club, due to his iconic status, but he needs the right staff around him to be a real success. But then Clough needed help too, he was a shadow of himself without his right hand man, so I don't see it being a problem as such. Sorry to butt in, and sorry for the long note, I just thought you all might appreciate a neutral view on the matter. It is difficult sometimes to look at things objectively when it matters so much.}

Got to agree with you ed, right back room staff and we'll be awesome

2.) 02 Apr 2014
Ed 001 pearce may sound thick but remember he was an electrician and that takes a bjt of nounce!. Also he has gone through all the coaching ckurses since he last had a stab with forest. He has matured and developed.

{Ed001's Note - I am not talking about how he sounds, I am talking about how he is.}

3.) 02 Apr 2014
Expect a few comments your way Ed001 lol

4.) 02 Apr 2014
Bit harsh calling him thick 001? He may not have had the best education but he was a skilled electrician prior to football which requires some thought and problem solving. Surely he has been in the game long enough to have picked up some tactucal awareness?

{Ed001's Note - obviously not, as he is tactically inept, which is why I was suggesting a guiding hand to help him there.}

Clough a shadow of himself without Taylor, absolute rubbish, Taylor left in 82 when we had already started to decline, in 84 we reached the UEFA cup semi finals before being robbed by a bribed referee, financial problems meant that side was broken up but Clough rebuilt the side with the likes of Webb, Walker, Pearce who was good considering how thick he is, we finished second in the league, won the league cup in 89, 90 losing finalists in 92, reached the fans cup final in 91 lost in the 88, 89, semi finals to an outstanding Liverpool time, yes we were relegated in 93 mainly due to not replacing Walker and Sheringham, Cloughs alcohol issues did begin to overcome him but between 86 and 91 we were one of the top three teams in the country, developed excellent young players and were hailed for the quality of our football, I'm sorry Ed 001 your lack of knowledge of our club makes it difficult to take your comments seriously

{Ed001's Note - if you say so, but I will take pros words over your biting whines any time.}

6.) 02 Apr 2014
I would love to read the replys to the above post but I have a sneaky feeling we will not get the opportunity.

7.) 02 Apr 2014
Ed, I'm not sure that calling him thick was fair and your views on his tactics. He did well as a National coach and thinks that he deserves a chance. I for one would welcome him with open arms. COYR

{Ed001's Note - it is your right to disagree. Though I would like to know when he did well?}

8.) 02 Apr 2014
Biting whines, bit childish, all I did was explain to you how Clough was far from a shadow of himself without Taylor.

9.) 02 Apr 2014
Based on his history, I think we've all got some reservations about Pearces credentials. What we do know is that him & the owner will run through walls for Forest, and that's a good basis going forward.

{Ed034's Note - great post cj

10.) 02 Apr 2014
Well getting England to a European final is not doing badly is it. Gazza2969

11.) 02 Apr 2014
It's ok citing pro's words over posters, without offering anything to back it up.

12.) 02 Apr 2014
Sounds like while the cats away the mice are having a play lol. Unless its a cunning plan by Ed 034 to increase traffic. Masterstroke!

{Ed034's Note - lol too busy as it is

13.) 02 Apr 2014
Ed34-do all of you ed's ever meet up? If you do can you stamp on ed001's foot (hard) and do a psycho roar in his face at the same time ;-)

{Ed034's Note - lol

14.) 02 Apr 2014
Where is our Ed034 when we need a response?

{Ed034's Note - as ive said numerous times I have heard and been to hear pearce speak and he talks a lot of sense and has good knowledge.
he has played for and also worked alongside some very good coaches, which would have rubbed off on him.
obviously you cannot do it all on your own and he will need to bring in the right people, that goes without saying, but that goes without saying for any manager doesn't it??
whoever we bring in is a risk whether it is a seasoned championship manager who has been there and done it (we have seen this with billy), someone who has just stopped playing and taking his first role or someone like pearce who has been involved in the England set up and is now ready for club management.
For me he is a good choice but I have also said he is not my first choice, that would have been zola.
Pearce loves the club and will do everything he can to be a success. Our role as fans is to do the same and give him our full backing

15.) 02 Apr 2014
Well said upper clough! it would seem that even being faced with all that evidence he would still rather listen to ladies of the night`s opinions than your biting whines lol

16.) 02 Apr 2014
At least if we are getting thrashed midweek, pearce can find the fuseboard, switch the floodlights off and get the game abandoned - you tell me another manager who can employ that tactic?

17.) 02 Apr 2014
Sparky hughes? :-)

18.) 02 Apr 2014
Ed 001, don't come on here causing unrest and stirring things up! We don't need non forest fans doing that-we can do it ourself! Lol only kidding, its good to hear a neutral view on it although I think its a bit harsh :- (

19.) 03 Apr 2014
Loving the logic there Ed001 - you'd rather take 'pro's' words over posters and yet at the same time your labeling one of the most professional players of his generation 'thick' - because of what you were told by a 'Pro'?!

Just so we can shed some light on the quality of your source, have you conducted a poll with other pro's on whether the 'pro's' you heard from are thick?

Incidentally, the poster did make a pretty good defence for the post-clough era - which you dismissed as biting whines. With that in mind, and on the evidence we've seen so far i'm starting to believe you may have been right about there being someone 'thick' in this triangle of whispers.

{Ed001's Note - can you read or are you another imbecile too far up Pearce's backside to see that my opinion was only the final bit? Seems you are right, only it is you that you must be referring to. By the way, it was more than one person, some were players and some were staff. Though I would agree some had a cheek calling him thick, but then they were in little need of intelligence to kick a ball around.}
