I posted this to show how we were playing a different way against Fenerbahce than we played before, especially under Nuno. Look how high up the pitch we were playing. You'll have to download similar from Nuno's (or Dyche's) time, but we played a lot deeper and used a low block. It is proof that you can play a higher line against quality opposition and still be solid defensively.

Ok, we might have to play deeper against some of the quicker sides away from home, but it shows what a difference to our better players it makes having a more positive setup and attitude from the coach. But, to the people who were saying we are playing the Nuno way - no, we were not! Try not to have a meltdown if we lose to Liverpool. This is a better way to play.

Sorry, I forgot to say. We have exactly the kind of players who can play this way. We were stifling players like Sangare (nobody forward to pass to when he got the ball, except Jesus) and Murillo (who needs license to go forward or players in advanced positions to pass to, in order to thrive).

And this system will suit Hutchinson and Bakwa too, as if you play proper wingers you need more than one player in the fecking box!

It's a controlled way of playing as high up the field as possible, Cyclist, and imo the right way. If you sit back, you invite trouble, and it's not a good watch for fans. Tbh, we have no idea of team selection or set up tomorrow.

I've a feeling he'll stick with a flat back four for now, and probably an unchanged starting line-up. It's not time to get carried away, but lots of positives to take from the Fenerbahce game.

Wow Cyclist, I'm glad you have that much time to spend on collecting all this data. I'm too busy working to do that. But after one game, it's all a load of rubbish. It's a season that you go through to end up in a European competition, which Nuno did; no matter what tactics he deployed, he got us there. A fact which all of your homework shows is a maybe, especially after just one game.

I can't believe fans can get this excited after one game. Let's just see where we are after the next 12 games. It won't be long. A win against Liverpool or even a draw would be better than the result Thursday in my eyes, no matter how we play. And, of course, the players turning up in the game.

And I think you will find our new manager is a big fan of Nuno, whether he plays his way or not. I just hope he's as good as Nuno. Then I will be a happy chappy. Anyway, work early in the morning. You carry on with your research, Cyclist. And some posters have the nerve to call Stokey out with his long boring posts. ??

Like your best mate, Larry, and you've never done that, Skeggs? Unbelievable.

Skeggs you'll have to let your obsession with nuno go, its not good for your mental health keep crying for him to come back ????

I said all that, but I would probably go for a more Nuno setup against the big sides away. ? But, just because Nuno and the new boss are mates, it doesn't make em identical twins. Why do you think uploading a screenshot of the "average" players' positions is doing loads of research, Jay? It took about two minutes, and probably the same amount of time you took typing a rubbish reply.

Call me a computer wizz kid. ?

Morning, boys. That's my scrambled eggs on toast done and dusted. Now off to work. Busy morning laying flooring. Fingers crossed that every player gives 100 percent like they did Thursday. Not expecting the same, but as long as they show they're in a battle I will be happy. ?

Interesting post, Cyclist. The key words there are "quality opposition", and I'm not sure Fenerbache were mates. (Was that short enough, Uuuredds?) . ? ? ?

Really can't get my head around some on here, why can't they accept we played sub standard football under Dyche? We demolished the Turks in their own back yard. A performance to be proud of. Long may it continue. BTW good post cyclist, those tactics are the same as i use on footy manager with Burnley, got them top half challenging for Europe. ?

Stokey, Fenerbahce may not be top class opposition, but their game against Villa is an interesting comparison. Have a look at the stats for that game. They gave Villa a really tough time. We totally outclassed them, so maybe a bit more credit is due.
