If we do go three at the back after getting Diomande, that has to be the strongest three outside of Champions League. It’s the midfield that worries me, and also lack of goals from strikers. Another midfielder, striker and back up keeper essential IMO. As ever it’s all looking a bit too late again.

Back three with two holders, Sangare, Dominguez, Schlager and Yates all candidates. That frees up MGW for a free role in behind Jesus and Taiwo. Obviously Aina and Williams as wingbacks. ?

Imagine that pressing high from halfway, Dio and Murillo have the pace to counter any balls over the top. ?

Doesn't Glasner play with two number 10s behind a striker and rely on lots of work from the wing backs?

Does Aina have the stamina to play that role every game? No. Is Da Silva ready, as he is that type of player. I like Eric Da Silva and hope he sticks around this season. Would also suit Ndoye as a full back IMO. Williams is perfect for that role, but nobody can do that 100 minutes twice a week for long.

Two number 10s would mean a Wood/Delap type up front with Jesus/McAtee/Kalimuend/Hutchinson, with MGW behind.

Wood can't play every game (if he's ever going to fully fit again). We need a striker who fits that system unless Glasner thinks Taiwo or Kalimuendo are right for that role. For me, this is more important than another MF.

Another creative player is always handy, as is an amazing all round midfielder, but I reckon another FB and number 9 (especially if Kalimuendo is leaving) should be top of the shopping list.

Frog, I've been saying exactly as per your post since the end of last season.
Four signings. Firstly, replace (if that's possible) Ando (unless Schlager is the answer, which I doubt); secondly, a striker for the ageing Woody (Mateta perhaps, unless Taiwo can step up); thirdly, beef up the goalkeeper department (Pope?). John Victor has done nothing in pre season, except confirm my belief that if Sels gets injured, we are screwed; and lastly, Diomande to facilitate the 3 at the back that Glasner prefers.

I'd just make the further point that with the change of manager and systems, the £70 million we spent on wingers like Bakwa and Hutch will be largely wasted unless we are chasing the game under this system. Our main striker will need a supply from the flanks, and that will be down to the wing backs.
I personally think Netz and Moreira will be good back up for Aina and Williams, with Ndoye a possibility.

Glasner played 2 up at Wolfsburg, just saying. ?

Like all good coaches, RRH, he's flexible and pragmatic. Perhaps, using Cloughie's dictum, "it's not tactics that win you matches, it's good players," he'll build a system that plays to his (perceived) strengths, mate?
I'm going on pre season, where it's invariably 3 at the back.

Of course it could be a double bluff. Like Billy Connelly's great story about his Dad who trained for months as a Para in the mountains of Scotland only to be dropped in action into Holland. ????

Forest just got a striker from Newcastle on a free.

Sorry, chaps, it's a woman striker, my mistake. Does look like a man though.

?, Vale, don't you just hate that a lot of sites don't separate men's and women's football. You read the headline, get sucked in, then realise you ain't got a clue what they're talking about. Daily occurrence for me. ? ?
