Good morning all,
Been reading past posts on this site and others, about signing more experienced players and not relying on the youth signings. Got me thinking, who was the last big named/ experienced player that we bought that actually played well. Most of our top players have come from youth or relitief unknowns from lower leagues that we took a punt on.
Unless I've forgotten, I'm back to Bryan Roy can't think of many others. Any help/alternatives?

Whilst delighted with the emphasis on youth by SP and great optimism re the coming season, I have just a little concern seeing the make-up of the under 21 team which played Boston. Nearly all foreign names. I have faith in SP and sincerely hope that he will look for a majority of Brits for his squad. When we get into the Premier I don't want us to become a Man City/Chelsea/Arsenal despite their successes. Hope the majority of fans will agree with me.

Howard, get your point, but perhaps best we worry about that when we get there. Still the issue of getting out of the championship before the issue of how we handle the EPL.

I get the romantic notion behind a fielding a predominantly british side in the premiership, but its a fruitless stand if no one follows suit. Best stay in the championship if you are not prepared to compete with the big boys. The World Cup proved to highlight we don't have the quality to mix it with our foreign friends.
