Linked with Tom Caroll today

RAY DONNY RED

1.) Apparently he's a good player so could be good bit for next season probably

2.) Such an average player, would honestly rather throw Grant in the deep end as he'll be better than Carroll. Pearce knows best I guess

3.) The Gaffer worked with him at 21 level. had spells in the Championship on loan

4.) In my opinion I hope not. Been on loan to many clubs and not many fans have a good word for him. Potential yes application it appears no.

5.) Apologies - for the ignorant amongst us - Who's Tom Caroll? Who does he play for? Position?

Ed - Seen as you're the only person I listen to on here (rightly or wrongly) is he any good?

{Ed034's Note - he's a DM who will not win you games, but will allow the more attacking players to do what they do best.
Usually plays the simple pass and can frustrate fans as he seems to pass sideways, but is a steady player and one than can improve

6.) Hi Ed,

Just been speaking to a QPR friend of mine and they were glad to see the back of him as he brought nothing to the team. 22 years old and apparently not improving at all so in my opinion we have better at the club already.

{Ed034's Note - have heard the same but he is well thought of, so I would think he's one of those players who does the boring stuff, which fans don't like seeing.
pearce obviously knows what he can bring, if anything and if he thinks he'll be an asset then he'll bring him in

7.) I wouldn't say he is a DM, perhaps a deep-lying playmaker but not really a defensive-minded player.

He's like a poor-mans, latter-day, Paul Scholes. Decent ability and range of passing but not enough clinical end product. He's not far off being Tom Cleverley, to be honest!

You never know, these slow-paced, Pirlo-esque players sometimes take a bit longer to mature and impose themselves but I agree that on most of the viewings I've seen of him he doesn't do enough.

8.) If he is being mentioned In a thread along with a poor man's Pirlo Scholes or Cleverley then wouldn't be a bad squad player. It is clear that we need depth In the holding midfield rile and I am sure SP can bring the best from him.

9.) Wheres Vaughan these days

10.) Vaughn as due to play in a behind closed doors game today.

11.) As gomez says wheres vaughan and the new lad from hamburg is a dm so why would we need even more cover when we have two players to intoduce to the squad already. He may not get much game time and with everone banging on about ffp do we need to waste snother wage.

12.) "He's not far off Cleverly".

So pretty useless then. Really irritates me that so many English players fear losing the ball so mich they just square ball.

Henderson at Liverpool is a prime example. Poor and Cleverly is so overrated IMO. I honestly would have Lansbury ahead of him

in the summer i was really worried Lansbury would leave and very upset when Darlow and Lascelles were "sold"

how things change!
with Lascelles i appreciate he can look awesome winning the ball and very young but as all round defender he doesn't convince, think back to Walker and chris Fareclough at similar age, they both seemed to have greater awareness and positional sense, or is it rose coloured spectacles looking back?

RAY DONNY RED

1.) Lascelles is nowhere near the level that Michael Dawson was at the same age either. I'm not bothered that he is leaving but Darlow is a good keeper and i'm sure Lansbury will find his form again if he is playing alongside Reid in midfield.

2.) It was up to Darlow to stop the first two goals neither of which he seemed to see at all and it was his save which pushed the ball onto Mancienne resulting in the third. Hardly convincing.

3.) I don't blame darlow for the second goal. Someone should have picked up Cotterill from the short corner - players went to sleep for a few seconds and paid the price.

4.) Think Darlow showed his age against Brum. Nobody would be standing for long in front of an experienced keeper without getting a right earful.
He is far from the finished article that's why Newcastle loaned him straight back out. Good shot stopping doesn't make a great keeper.

5.) Third goal was Pattersons fault. He had time to clear the ball but decided to stand and look at it . They picked it up and scored. Not the best tatics !

Burke or Mackie?

Ok so Burke scores odd great goal and can cross well and is capable of good runs. But how many in 3 months?

he runs around a lot and covers ground but just cannot get a foot in or tackle. Would be interesting to see Mackies energy and enthusiasm in team, never really let us down?

comparing as like for like Right sided players, so not compared Patto who I think is better than both but different wing

RAY DONNY RED

1.) Can always pick better players out when we are losing, its not one player

2.) I don't think Burke does enuf in a game, odd run and odd cross now and then, I think Paterson is a far better player, if he can't get in side at mo, there's got to be something more wrong.

3.) Think pato will start Saturday. Either up top with Britt or wing and Antonio up top.

4.) 06 nov 2014 20:44:38
yes i know it is easy when we are losing but think it applied when we were winning as well. views change though- i went to the match last night hoping dan harding was playing, i would never have believed that last season!

5.) I think pato will start Saturday to. He did well when he came on on Wednesday. However to be fair to Burke I think he is a very good player and just needs some confidence back. Got stuck on the left wing Wednesday which was unfair on him. Rightly so looked uncomfortable all game.

Antonio sitting top of championship with most assists (5) Fanrtstic and add his goals as well and the times he wins free kicks and penalties by taking people on , wonderful signing

nice also to see one Paul Anderson sitting equal second in Assists with 3. thought his best days were behind him

So sad for Cohen cannot remember a player so universally loved and respected! However how many people thought he would be a key midfield player this season? think most saw him getting the left back as we had (on paper) a midfield of Lansbury Reid and Vaughan which was going to be best in Championship. That hasn't changed plus add excellent Tesche. Midfield still strong Osborne also promising but needs more strength and confidence to pass forward (thought last night he was playing the easy ball and Tesche did that so much better) Very best wishes Chris

It is really bad news for chris i am actually gutted for the guy as we all are because we all know he isn't our best player but in terms of heart and work rate he is the best i have ever seen in my time down at the CG, was just wondering if he was to hang up his boots after all of this i would love to see him stay in some sorr or coaching role either with the midfield of the first team or with the youth squad, i think with his teachings the likes of osborn, mclaughlin (sorry for the spelling) and other youngsters would learn a hell of a lot from him, i'm not saying he should hang up his boots but i'm saying if he was too, what do you guys think?

Got to say today Dan Harding had his best game today, been critical in past but hats off to him.

RAY DONNY RED

1.) 16 Aug 2014 22:15:23
Agree

2.) I'm pleased for Harding, I think he is a player who needs confidence, he played for the Southampton side who won promotion regular, but think he has the right attitude needed. I think by October when the team is properly match fit and mistakes ironed out we will be a serious contender. Great that the club are open with the media too, so much different to last season, everything is positive at the moment.

Agreed, thought he was very average on loan, whose decision was it to sign him? was it in process before SP?
It takes someone very bad for us to call for Harding who to be fair was playing Ok this season.

What is really exciting is that Britt has scored a number of great goals for Posh, not really done that yet (apart from Derby) so think there is more to look forward to
