Here's a statement that I know will ruffle a few feathers. if SP plays Andy Reid in the middle of a 442 away from home then I predict we will lose our next two league games!

{Ed034's Note - why is that then??

1.) 10 Aug 2014
Actually shaking my head reading that post!!

2.) 10 Aug 2014
Explain why then don't just leave it at that its like an ending from Eastenders

3.) 10 Aug 2014
Why to which bit Ed?

{Ed034's Note - I so not understand your question? You have made one statement

4.) 10 Aug 2014
I predict that you don't know what you're on about in anyway shape or form.

Reid was my motm yesterday he was breaking play up and pinging the ball around all over the place.

Quite possibly the worst post that I've ever read on here.

5.) 10 Aug 2014
On a more positive note, I thought Cohen looked good there yesterday. I personally would have given mom to fox tho

6.) 10 Aug 2014
We all know Reid is a top team player with a wand for a left foot. However, he often gets left behind struggling to get back and often opposition midfielders easily run past him. In home games you can sometimes get away with it but away from home, when you are under a lot more pressure, I feel in some games we may be overrun in that area. I would happily see him in a free role in a 5 man midfield but I wouldn't look much beyond a Lansbury and Cohen combination in the middle of a 4 man midfield away from home. It is just my opinion. Shoot me down in flames if you want but only time will tell what SP does and wether I was right or wrong.

{Ed034's Note - even though I suspect Pearce will play 451 away, I do not agree he gets overran, anymore than any other player would do

7.) 10 Aug 2014
Well I didn't see Reid lose the ball once yesterday. He was my MOM and I'm not the only one to have said that.

8.) 10 Aug 2014
I was at the game yesterday and everything revolves around Andy. He makes the team tick, and as such the other players respond to him. It is a stupid post to suggest that the team will not win away matches with him in the side.

10.) 10 Aug 2014
Told you I would ruffle a few feathers Ed. If, in time, I'm proved to be wrong then I will happily come on here and admit it but as you say Ed, I suspect SP will go for a different formation away.

11.) 10 Aug 2014
CMRED. You cannot compare a home game against the favourites for relegation with a tough away fixture.

Jaj. I never said we wouldn't win away games with Reid in the side.

12.) 10 Aug 2014
Well done LC, you made two points and your prediction of ruffling a few feathers is already right!
You are also right about Reid in the middle of a four. Doesn't mean he isn't a great player. He will get overrun more than others obviously.
Ed, you contradict yourself in a way, SP will probably play five in midfield away from home because of exactly this.
I completely agree with LC and am suprised other knowlegable Reds don't see this.

{Ed034's Note - I didn't say he would play it for this reason, I said I think he will.
Reid reads the game and will more often than not, be in the right place at the right time.
I would rather have Reid play central with Vaughan, two players that will dictate play, than two big, none stop DMs.
Your last line is so patronising. Just because others do not agree, does not mean they are nit knowledgable or havnt seen it. They just do not agree

13.) 10 Aug 2014
Absolutely crackers mate, we've got the best team in years, dominated our first game and you want to single out one of our key and best players with some completely twisted logic that makes no logical sense to anyone other than yourself. and put a downer on a great time for forest. Seriously mate it's absolute nonsense you should hang your head in shame.

14.) 10 Aug 2014
Thanks ureds but I think we are flogging a dead horse. Anybody who has the temerity to express a different point of view must be crackers. Please accept my apologies everyone I made the mistake of thinking this was a banter site. In future, If I see something that I think might cause the team problems, I will be sure to keep it to myself. Lol

{Ed034's Note - if you are going to start a debate, don't you think you are going to get people both agreeing and disagreeing?? If you don't like people disagreeing, don't start one in the future

15.) 10 Aug 2014
Saw a stat on a site assessing
The top 10 play players in the championship
I have not checked the stat however it said in the 32 games Andy played in Forest lost only 3. In the 24 games theft he didn't we won only 4 sounds good to me
COYR

Most of you are missing the point. I think Reid is brilliant. I am more excited about everything at Forest than for years. Yesterday was brilliant. Reid played well. He was in the right formation for that match yesterday.
You can't start quoting stats without qualifying. Forest will play better with Reid in the side. He is obviously more effective in the best formation for the best match.
If I was patronising, sorry, wasnt meant that way. Just genuinely suprised that so many feel that a player of Reids ability is best utilised that way.
And Ed if you are going to call me patronising for that, look back over some of your replies to those you disagree with. people in glass houses.
For the record, I will be at Bolton and Bournemouth, I am excited but I would be a little worried and surprised if Reid plays in that role.

{Ed034's Note - I fully admit I can be patronising, usually when it's deserved.
If we are playing 451, it'll probably be 4231 and for me, Reid's best position is sitting as part of the two. Him and Vaughan ran games and having the likes of fryatt, assombalonga, Burke and Antonio to pick out now, along with pato and Lansbury, I wouldn't consider playing him anywhere else

If that was the way Cloughie(GOD) would never have played Robbo(the king) away because he didn't always track back and if he did he'd get a rollocking. He certainly either wouldn't have played or would have been taken off against Hamburg before he won us the cup. Reidy is one of those special players that can split a defence with his first touch. We had to many draws last year he is the type of players who can turn draws into wins.

{Ed034's Note - I don't think the op said they wouldn't play Reid. The point is the op thinks Reid can get over run in centre mid, in a 442.
I disagree. I think the fact Reid can hold the ball and keep possession, sling with create, means we are less likely to get overrun.

18.) 10 Aug 2014
Reid might not have the pace which is the only area he could be shown up on. But what he lacks in pace he more than makes up for in his ability as a playmaker, shooting ability and understanding of the game.

Take him out the team and the team suffers. He is a key player full stop.

To say well be overrun solely by the inclusion of Reid in the middle is just a ridiculous statement based on no evidence at all.

19.) 10 Aug 2014
And Reidy is looking in better shape than I've ever seen him and I think he will track back more than usual this season, he won a few 50/50 balls on Saturday and he didn't lose the ball once as far as I can remember, like someone just said he reads the game so well he's rarely out of position and won't sell himself into daft tackles when to jockey his man is the best option, I think he is a must no matter what the formation. We all Agree that his vision and creativity are second to none in the team, and IMO we should fit him into any system we play.

20.) 10 Aug 2014
I personally think Reid could do a good job anywhere in the middle

21.) 10 Aug 2014
Who cares if Reid isn't as good defensively as others. That's why he will have a more defensive minded player next to him in that role, such as Cohen yesterday or Vaughan. I would much rather play with one attacking and one more disciplined central midfielder, over two purely physical defensive minded players

22.) 10 Aug 2014
I think it's pretty obvious to suggest that the formation Pearce picked yesterday will not be the ideal formation away from home, or against the stronger sides in the division. I don't see why the OP has received so much criticism for saying so.

Reid's best position is as a No10, as the third man in central midfield, in-behind the forward (s). Take off his shackles and don't restrict him with any defensive duties. Let him receive the ball further up the park and let him play his best game. Vaughan, Lansbury and Cohen should be preferred CMs in a 442, when they're fit, anyway. Certainly don't think Pearce would've played Reid there if either DV or HL were available.

In my experience of this site, if you post something positive, no matter how personic, you will get support. But if you post something negative, no matter how well thought-out, you will receive criticism. Shame, but that's the way it goes.

23.) 11 Aug 2014
Wonkyeye you're missing the point, I agree with what you say as regards reidys best position being more of a free role.

But the op suggested that we are going to lose solely based on reidy playing in that central role. Which is just so unnecessarily negative and completely unjust.

How you can single out reidy in such a negative way is completely beyond me and I'm simply quite astounded that people sympathise with such views.

To say that's not reidys best position I could understand but to say solely from him playing there we will lose!? Seriously get a grip.
