Really surprised so many games went ahead today, i thought surely they'd be conscious of travelling fans in this storm. Wow them winds, snow, rain etc were unreal here on the north east coast. Hope you all stayed safe throughout. don't know how bad it was in your areas?

{Ed001's Note - it was lovely here mate, sunny all day long....}

Hahahaha were you on the sunbed ed?

{Ed001's Note - there are a lot of them round here, oddly enough mate. I have never understood that when you can just sit outside for ten minutes and get the same effect.}

Could i ask where you are ED?

{Ed001's Note - sorry I thought you knew mate. I was told by the doctor to get sun and sea air for my health so moved to Dubai. But now I have recuperated I will be moving out of here in a couple of months as it is too expensive to stay here.}

Wow ED mate rwally glad to hear your on the mend mate. Where are you moving to next. Really hope all goes well 👍.

{Ed001's Note - oddly it was having covid that sorted me out. Though one of the lads on the Liverpool site is a doctor and worked on a covid ward at the start of it and he was telling me they have had cancers that have been cured by the body when a patient had it. Apparently the body has no idea what the problem is so starts working on everything it can find and a bit of luck can mean it fixes issues.

My missus is in the Philippines and there is no work for her any more here so I will go there. Works out better as the cost of living is so much lower than here or the UK. Moving in Jan all being well. My godkids are out there as well and lots of my friends so looking forward to it.}

What were the complications, asthma or something? Sorry if you feel i'm being too nosey. Understand if you don't answer mate.

{Ed001's Note - it's fine mate. I had glandular fever and flu at the same time, which caused a liver infection. That left my liver in a right state (luckily I don't drink or I wouldn't be here today) and not metabolising vit e (I think it is e that you get from the sun) so I needed constant sunlight as otherwise I just constantly kept getting sick. It is all good now though.}

Unreal sir, so glad you came through. Just brings the realities of life, and how so many of us take it for granted. Over the moon your getting out to join your missus and godkids, i'm sure them waiting for ya can't wait for your arrival. I wish you all the very best in the future. It must be an amazing experience yet for the wrong reasons. But must obviously put your whole new perspective on life and opened your eyes to the things in front of you. the world,

{Ed001's Note - it certainly has made me appreciate life, friends and family more mate. It has been interesting living out here, though not always for good reasons! I am very much looking forward to the move, it is a place I always wanted to go to growing up a Bruce Lee fan and his protege Dan Inosanto is from there and lives and teaches there. It was Inosanto that taught Lee the stick fighting techniques he uses in Enter the Dragon, as it is a Filipino martial arts speciality.}

Loved bruce lee total legend mate. I've got to black belt in origami sniff sniff. I remember our weapons as a kid. We used to bang a tin can over a stick till it was flat =chopper. No money in them days. But looking back, we enjoyed life more and the reason for that was we got out played tinablock. cricket, foitball, fishing etc kids never want to leave the house these days for me.

{Ed001's Note - I agree mate, kids no longer use their imagination as the story is made up for them. It is sad really.}

Ed and Bowie spent some time in Dubai where my stepson was working before about 8 months., Amazing place. So very very hot, first time I’ve ever seen an air conditioned bus shelter! Bangladeshi taxi drivers were cricket mad and always wanted to talk about their hero’s and Kevin Pietersen! I liked the women only train and tram carriages, very civilised and woe betide any harassment or bad behaviour.

I remember one hot night sitting on my high rise balcony looking across an 8 lane motorway at the Burg Khalistan drinking Gin and tonic and getting strangely moved that all the adverts and signs were in English, the effect of our little obscure Island on a great big world. Also seeing the clash of cultures whilst on a champagne reception do on a boat around the bay and seeing a huge tramp coaster sail past in the darkness with a man acting as look out wearing a loin cloth and turban looking across at me as if I was from another world entirely. Which of course I was.
Incredible experience.

It was sobering flying there and back as we flew directly over Aleppo in our cosy Emirates airliner whilst 30 000 feet below us people were killing each other in their thousands . Heaven and hell and something I’ll never forget.

Your certainly a man of the world stokey mate, excuse my ignorance but i thought you couldn't drink in them countries 😂 i travelled most of Europe full stop. Never any further. Germany was probably my favourite. My ex who i have my youngest with, speaks fluent German. Her father still lives there. got to admit i could never ger away with the bloke. Half cockney half German not a good mix 😉.

I was out there in the early eighties organising installation of heat pumps for greenhouses . At night the temp drops to freezing, the site was miles from anywhere and no alcohol. job soon got completed in record time.

We have a lot in common Bowie, my first wife was a German teacher ( though she was from Leicester) with her degree in German so we spent a lot of time in Germany. We were once arrested in the old East Germany but that’s another story! Loved the Germans, very civilised indeed.
Booze was very easy to get in Dubai but you had to be very discreet and never ever take it to public areas nor get drunk and misbehave! My stepson worked for a law firm out there dealing with property and his apartment was packed with booze acquired by previous Brits who rented it from te company. When they moved on the booze got left behind and as my stepson doesn’t really drink it was happy days! Well it was for us Europeans anyway,
We stayed for a while in the talkest hotel in Dubai ( can’t remember the name of it now) but we had to get to our floor using a lift with glass exterior for the views. Unfortunately my wife is terrified of heights and used to bury her head under my shoulder in fear. Once I heard a familiar Scouse voice ask me if she was alright and I turned round and there was John Bishop who I hadnt spotted!

Is it true Ed that Bruce Lee spoke no English whatsoever when they filmed Enter the Dragon and he had to laboriously learn his lines phonetically?

{Ed001's Note - no, he was born in San Francisco and spoke English fluently.}

14.) 28 Nov 2021
28 Nov 2021 16:19:11
Perhaps I’m thinking of early Jackie Chan?

{Ed001's Note - I think you are, I was going to ask if you were as he did that for (if I remember correctly) Cannonball Run.}

28 Nov 2021 16:14:06
Don’t know where I got that erroneous information from Ed but I’ll put it definitively to bed! Thanks Ed.

{Ed001's Note - actually I think it might have been Rumble in the Bronx Chan did that, Cannonball Run was his first western film in English but he didn't speak any English in it thinking about it.}

Stokey mate, you mentioned in one of the upper posts, the talkest hotel and i was going to say, sure you don't mean liverpool 😂😂 then you mentioned john bishop. I stayed at the blackforest area of Germany. Absolutely beautiful, long story but we went to a hells angel hut there, her dad was one of them, think it was them. Anyway drank the lot under the table to which i'm reminded they still talk about hahahaha. Am i proud fkn right i was. They had a set up to get around tax and you bought so many ticks which =so many equals a bottle of southern comfort. can't remember how many i drank tbh, they just talk about it apparently. Geordie upbringing i guess.

{Ed001's Note - cheeky bugger!}

Great story and memories Bowie mate! “Talkest” was a typo for “tallest” Hotel in Dubai where John Bishop was in the lift making sure my terror struck wife was ok. I’ve looked it up it was the Marriott but it’s since been succeeded by an even taller hotel which opened in 2021.
Taking ( or not) of Hotels and linking in the Beatles of whom I’m also a fan, a few years back my wife and I spent a wonderful Valentines weekend at the Hard Days Night Hotel just round the corner from the Cavern in Liverpool. Romantic dog that I am eh? Full of Beatles stuff. Did u know that the opening discordant chord on Hard Days night is represented in the music sheets by 3 dots with a dot at the back representing John, Paul and George in front with Ringo on the drums behind. Honestly the absolute rubbish that I know but I can’t remember what I bloody did yesterday 😂😂😂😂😂😂.

Ed I was always amazed by the choreography of the action and fight scenes of Bruce Lees films. We’re they speeded up or actually took place at those speeds?

{Ed001's Note - he was that fast that it was claimed he slowed down for the cameras. Hard to know what is true or not about this for certain but he did do lots of demonstrations at martial arts events and he was certainly extremely fast.}
