Both my grandads were miners and my Dad worked as a welder at Raleigh all his working life and was a shop steward. His Union, the Society of Metal Mechanics paid for all my books and equipment when I went to university through a grant. I have always voted Labour but even I couldn’t beat the thought of Diane Abbott as Home Secretary and Corbyn as PM. I had high hopes of Corbyn when he was first elected leader but then realised he was still fighting the old Marxist battles of 40 or 50 years ago and hadn’t developed or matured at all. As for Abbott it wasn’t because she was black it was because she was incompetent and dangerous.
