I'm sure I'm reading too much into it but I've noticed the club refer to Chris Hughton as manager but call Sabri head coach. Could it be something Hughton stipulated before he agreed to join and does a manager have more input into how things are done eg transfer dealings? Either way, welcome to the club Chris, and good luck.

passtheball

{Ed002's Note - Not transfer dealings as such but it means that the responsibility of coaching will be shared and the manager will deal with tactics, the individuals, media, the board etc..}

Bostock in then. Clearly no striker coming in. The decision to let Tyler Walker go out on loan looks even drafter now. Wonder if we can persuade Crouch to come out of retirement!

1.) 08 Aug 2019 22:23:32
One thing I would say I don't think you've seen the last of the signings think a few free agents will join yet.

2.) 09 Aug 2019 16:57:30
Frazer Campbell heading to Huddersfield. One less free agent to bolster our threadbare attack.

3.) 09 Aug 2019 22:17:40
TWF That is the best news I've heard all window! 🤣.

4.) 10 Aug 2019 05:19:31
Anyone think we could get Daniel sturridge to come to us? Rooney at derby so there’s a chance.

5.) 10 Aug 2019 09:39:11
The Rooney circus will upset the apple cart at the Flat Pack Stadium come January! 🤮🤧🤣.

07 Aug 2019 22:12:10
Bruce Samba signed now. What does that do for Muric's confidence? Keepers, defenders and central midfielders, what about a bloody decent striker?

That's a small looking line up we've put out. I would imagine QPR will be chucking plenty of crosses into our penalty area for Smith who is very good in the air. I'd imagine they'll target Osborn in particular.

Seem to be doing alright anyway mate!!!

2.) 24 Feb 2018 16:58:22
As I said the other day, if we played football like we did in the second half it wouldn’t be long before we smashed some teams.

Let them build it from here, but it’s looking pretty good to me

3.) 24 Feb 2018 20:32:46
Lesson in life the whole is better than the sum of the individual parts and that gets results.
Karanka has now got a team playing rather than playing individuals who on paper are better?
Clougie did the same!
Onward and upward.

According to Sky sports we're interested in Tim Cahill. Seems a strange one to me.

1.) 26 Jan 2018 19:32:05
Have we been taken over by Millwall?

2.) 26 Jan 2018 19:39:54
You have mixed it up, they say Millwall have offered him a contract about 2 hours ago.

3.) 26 Jan 2018 20:41:34
10 yrs too late. Was a cracking player.

4.) 26 Jan 2018 20:48:03
It's all over sky and fox sport Australia that we are going to hijack Cahill from Millwall, i hope not at 38 i think he's past it rather have de Oliveria âš“

5.) 26 Jan 2018 23:15:10
Tim Cahill, 38, needs competitive football because of his last world cup. 6 month contract, model pro, will score goals and not as daft as it seems. A serious option if Vaughny keeps getting niggling injuries. No, I'm being serious.😉

6.) 27 Jan 2018 01:52:49
I've seen him on tv regularly in Asia playing for the Aussies, believe me he's still got it
Scores goals, winds up defences, no worries!

7.) 29 Jan 2018 11:14:11
I'd be happy to take him until the end of the season. Although the A League is not the same as the championship he still packs a punch. Also a little old at 39 my fav has to be Archie Thompson who played for my Aus team Melbourne Victory, still as fit as a butchers dog 90 goals in 229 apps.

Regardless of whether you want Cooper to stay or not, is there anybody on here that genuinely believes we'll stay up?

passtheball

1.) 09 Apr 2023 11:01:28
No ?.

2.) 09 Apr 2023 11:19:35
I'm not so sure. considering our Run-In mate.

3.) 09 Apr 2023 11:23:10
Only the blind.

4.) 09 Apr 2023 11:26:44
8 games ago we had a very good chance of stopping up coopers negative tactics and his out of this world substitutions and the need to play his favourite players has lost us that chance so no we're doomed back to the championship and if we stick with Cooper next season and by some miracle we go straight back up will Cooper do anything different no we would lose our best players and after start all over again has he gone yet.

5.) 09 Apr 2023 11:34:24
So martin keown who knows a thing or to about defendind said that shelvey is bang average, wonder who decided to sign him? he is like a robot expressionless he is a walking red card when plays never gets involved enough and makes stupid decisions, the squad now have a week to recover for perhaps the most important game of the season lose and i think its all over.

6.) 09 Apr 2023 11:37:04
Sadly not me,

7.) 09 Apr 2023 11:40:42
Yes, me mate. ?.

8.) 09 Apr 2023 11:48:07
Yes I think we will win 2 games and draw 3

Wins Brighton and Southampton and draw with Man U Brentford and Palace 36 pts

Think Southampton Leicester and Everton will go down 30 33 and 35 respectively.

9.) 09 Apr 2023 12:08:11
I don't think we'll stay up but I remember a comment from a Huddersfield fan in the play off final when they said that the PL sounds great and glamorous but in reality it's not that fun due to the gulf in quality. I found that strange at the time but now I get it. Next season, the good news is we get to see who wants to pay for the shirt. I don't mind that so much and value hard work and unity over talent. I hope we can build a team around Yates, MGW and O'Brien. Awoniyi will cause damage and I'd like to see Surridge back who has been badly let down. I think Johnson will go for circa £45m but I wish him all the best and don't begrudge him anything. Promotion will likely hinge on retaining MGW who is an elite player despite being slightly off form recently. One final note of positivity, we were rock bottom and what a ride the last 18 months has been. Next season will take a bit of adjusting but it'll be interesting and would rather be in this situation than middle of the road like the last 18 years.

10.) 09 Apr 2023 12:13:13
Not a chance. Lee Dixon was quoted as saying that the last 8 games of the season were the most difficult to play if your team are fighting for something. Apart from a few players there isn't any fight is our team. Sorry same dross yesterday, change team and formation but same tactics. Villa pass around the back, one of our players chases a player they pass to another player another 1 of our players chase that player and repeat. They move forward, we watch, don't win second balls, can't take corners or free kicks, poor at throw ins, don't get enough players forward hit and hope crosses to Johnson, can't pass 2 yards, can't clear our lines, can't score, can't create, only 1 player can score. Too be honest i always said I don't care how we stay up just fight and do it. But the football this season has been dreadful, if I was a neutral I'd say 1 of the worst I've seen play in the prem. Sounds harsh but whatever we think of Cooper he's got a load of dross to work with. The team yesterday the only 2 players I'd keep are the ones we are going to sell at the end of the season.

11.) 09 Apr 2023 12:39:16
Bondster almost certain it was cooper who wanted Shelvey, Wood, Ayew a January window disaster only Filipe worthy and the DOF would have picked him. His eye for a player is like is eye for tatics and substitutions chaotic at best ?.

12.) 09 Apr 2023 12:40:56
Noooooo sorry but sad but also looking forward to being put out of our misery, and also one day in the future all you Cooperites when big M as given him every chance will say maybe he should have gone earlier.

13.) 09 Apr 2023 13:36:14
Not a chance.
Cooper's had ample opportunity to turn things around but he's not delivered.

14.) 09 Apr 2023 17:06:08
I really can't see us even putting 4 or 5 pts on the board between now and the end.

04 Apr 2023 22:18:05
Rinse and repeat. Game went pretty much how most of us expected (except somehow we scored). Cooper has no other way of playing and it's clearly not working. Can't close down quickly, can't string 2 passes together, panic and lump it forwards. Heck we can't even throw the ball to our own players. I genuinely don't think we'll win another game this season. Its pretty much sh*t or bust now and draws aren't going to save us so Cooper may as well try something different to get a win. Maybe try to get on the front foot and attack the opponent. How many times have we surrendered a lead? He may get sacked before the weekend but it's too little too late. The championship beckons my fellow reds.

Tried to calm down and look back at Fridays game rationally. I hate to say it and I'll feel the wrath of the happy clappers but the only slim chance I think we have of staying up is sadly to replace the manager with someone who can bring a different perspective to our play. I will always be grateful to Cooper for getting us promoted but I'm afraid he's out of his depth at this level and we are on a negative downward spiral. Week in week out we 'play' the same way. 10 men behind the ball, no composure, no pressing the opponent and defending our box for the majority of the game hoping to hit them on the break. We probably need another 12 points to stay up and I just don't see where they're coming from. You may as well write off all the away games. (4 goals all season-really? ) I actually agreed with the line up on Friday, except for the fact we started with 10 men (Ayew?) but we just kept giving the ball away as usual and inviting pressure back on us, which inevitably leads to mistakes and goals conceded. With the exception of Felipe the January transfer window was a disaster. I thought Shelvey would be a calming influence and get us actually passing the ball to a red shirt, but I can only assume he's following the coach's instructions and even he treats the ball like a hot potato. Either booting it long or wildly lashing at the ball. It really is painful to watch us play these days. Other teams around us are starting to show some fight and are having a go under their new managers. Would we score 3 against spurs or come from behind twice at Stamford Bridge? Cooper looks like a rabbit in the headlights with no idea how to do something different and his luck is starting to run out. it pains me to say it, but he will take us down.

Good well thought about post Passball. Perfect analysis of the cluless cooper dross being dished out game after game. He can't change, he doesn't know how to. To quote a Queen song
? We don't waste no time at all, we're just waiting for the axe to fall ? ⛏️?.

2.) 19 Mar 2023 18:19:02
Balloons, you know as much about music as you do about football. Nothing. Hammer not axe.

3.) 19 Mar 2023 18:32:19
Like it sir Brian never a truer word spoken ??.

26 Feb 2023 11:45:51
Balloons has perfectly summed up our "style of play'and approach to games. Nobody expects us to go gung ho but we can only pass the ball sideways or backwards in our own half. As soon as we get over halfway we end up lumping it down the right wing hoping Johnson can get on the end of it. Others teams seem to walk through our midfield with ease (Freuler is like playing with 10 men) and have attacking threat down both wings. We offer nothing down the left hand side and are very predictable. Balloons is correct that we have picked up points at home by riding our luck big time. The game plan is pretty much to stick 11 men behind the ball and hope to hit the opponent on the break. I genuinely think we'll get relegated and have thought so for a long time. We can't keep relying on the opposition missing chance after chance and we have actually had the rub of the green for a change this season. Incidentally the recruitment in January was woeful. Wood Ayew? Worse that what we already had and Danillo can't get in the team ahead of Colback. There is now even more pressure on us to get 3 points next week. Anything less and we really are in trouble. Of course I'll still cheer the team and manager on but I hate the way we play and just hope we somehow manage to stay up.

1.) 26 Feb 2023 12:46:23
I agree that our away style is definitely at best random and non effective. Firstly I'd like to say that the first goal at 72 mins was offside (depending on when you say the ball leaves the boot of the assist man) . We defended well ut unfortunately came up against a side that isn't really a relegation threat. There's no doom and gloom. I take positives from that. We lacked 20 mins of focus and didn't convert when we were in position. Considering we have over 10 injuries I think we are only 12 points away from safety. Everton, wolves, Southampton and Leeds become the focus. We really only n3ed less than a point a game. I would ? take where we are in the season at the start. Don't think we are "in trouble"

2.) 26 Feb 2023 12:57:03
Cooper tried to play the expansive game earlier in the season and we got caned

The problem is our CBS without Niakhate there is no pace which means we have to play a defensive low block with a back 4 and 2 defensive mids in front of them meaning 7 out of 11 players employed in holding positions

Therefore by definition we only have 4 players who are attack minded Johnson MGW and Scarpa are all excellent in 3 of those positions and when Awoniyi is fit no problems there

The two defensive mids imo should be Yates and Danilo as they are the future not Freuler Shelvey and Colback who imo should be squad players along with Mangala

Back 4 Aurier Felipe Niakhate and Lodi with Henderson in goal when fit

Just my thoughts guys.

3.) 26 Feb 2023 13:12:53
Can't understand all the fuss over Niakhate, he's only played twice and I'm sure he is a fine player but we don't really know yet do we. It's as if we are missing Cancelo. Niakhate back cannot carry on being the excuse for that woeful defensive performance yesterday ?.

12 Nov 2022 22:48:49
Delighted with the result, we really needed that. However, the performance, particularly in the first half, was a backwards step from the one in midweek. Defensively we weren't too bad after a shakey first 15 minutes and nobody can question the players work rate and commitment but our ball retention and remains dreadful and we will come unstuck if we keep conceding so much possession to the opposition. Playing lingard and mgw together doesn't really work and we need to play with a recognised centre forward. Dissapointed O'brien didn't start and Mangala was missed but he seems obsessed with the 3 slow, defensive midfielders he keeps picking. I'm sure some will think this is a negative post but I try to look at the overall performance and not get distracted by the result. We got a bit of luck today and for once VAR went our way. Hopefully Cooper will work with the squad and we might be a bit more composed and attack minded for the rest of the season. We're still in touch with the teams around us and we still have everything to play for. COYR.

I think we would all agree, the 3 points was the key. An impressive performance and more signs of gelling would be great but we need those points.

I'd drop Colback. Arter could fill the defensive role and would offer much more. At least he might try a forward pass once in a while.

You can't see Everton beating Newcastle but you think we might beat Brighton? Based on what exactly. Not won in about 11 games. Everton may well get relegated but we'll be going down with them. The Southampton game will probably determine who finishes bottom. I take no joy in this but let's be realistic. Negative tactics have cost us all season.

Pearce is all about motivation, Cooper man management. What we seem to lack is someone with tactical nous at this level but Cooper wouldn't play 2nd fiddle to someone else coming in. Villa are a prime example of what can be achieved.

Unless there's a sudden change of approach and tactics by Cooper I can think of a few reasons we won't win either game, let alone both. There's nothing recently to suggest it won't be the usual 10 behind the ball, lump it forward and hope Johnson can nick us a goal then cling on and hope we don't concede. Hope I'm proven wrong. Losing anytime to united is bad enough, but 4 times in a season would be tough.

I hope you're right but I very much doubt it. Let's be realistic, we are woeful away from home and there's nothing to suggest Cooper will do anything different to the usual negative defensive approach where we keep giving the ball to the opposition and hoping we hit them on the break. Even at home his luck has ran out and those 1 nil wins have started becoming draws or defeats. Pains me to say it but we are going back to the championship. I think we'll finish 2nd from bottom.
