Nottingham Forest are in talks over possible "big money" transfer to a big premiership club. My Dad knows Ned Kelly and apparently Billy told Fawaz that if the Lascelles transfer would finance matching Hobbs terms and and pay for defensive cover then we should consider offers.

I'm have no details about whether it will be in this window or in the summer but we need to bring in some cash to keep within fair play. The new arrivals are not financially viable without Lascelles potential sale.

I hope it is because we are in for Wickham now that Sunderland have signed the Argentinian (Scocco is it Ed?) but it sounds like we are spending more than p[lanned if we are considering letting our best prospect go.

Red Cyclist

1.) Pretty sure fawaz would of know the new faces weren't viable before he even put offers in for them. So I'm calling bull poop!

2.) Selling lescelles was not option when we were bidding for leadbitter and sako. so it shouldn't be now. keep hold of leschelas.
unless it will be 10m offer. and we then go and buy rhoades. otherwise hands off

3.) Its a hard decision and tough one to judge. Me, personally, I would rather leave Wickham and keep Lascelles for another season. My reasoning is, with Djebbour, Cox and Hendo and what we have behind them, is enough to have a good chnace this year - If we make it, Lascelles is autmoatically worth double the 3 and 4m prices being thrown around currently and we would need him for the prem. If we don't make it, we have a cracking CB for next yr who will only get better. We could pick up improvements in the striker department closed season if we don't go up.

4.) Theys no way we should contemplate selling lascelles

5.) Would prefer wickham if not fryatt but not graham. if we get Vaughn would be amazing window and if we get wickam I could very well wet myself.

6.) The Harsh reality of life. you need to balance he books and I can see this happening.

7.) I might be in a minority but provided we get a decent wedge for Lascelles (£5m+ add-ons) then I wouldn't mind seeing him go if it meant we could strengthen other areas.

The boy has potential but I personally don't think he has top class potential. I don't think we are selling the next Rio Ferdinand (more like the next Curtis Davies - good, but not that good).

I'd much rather keep Darlow than Lascelles.

8.) Do not sell any of the youngsters, will this club ever learn. We have been doing it for years and look where it has got us?! Keep the talent and add to it. I would have loved Hobbs to stay, but if he was so good, why no premier interest. Our youngsters are our future. Fawaz don't sell even if this is just a rumour. Get rid of the deadwood first.
Scottish Red

9.) Lascelles. and darlow going knowhere in near future.

10.) Just to let people know Faaz as only spent on Djebbour the other two are loans with view to permanant in summer, which means if we go up we will have the money. this is good business by Fawaz

11.) Boro' favs to land Graham. tv 1600 hrs

12.) If the right offer comes in a can see JL leaving. we need to balance the books somehow. there's a lot of interest in him so this could inflate his price tag with the likes of arsenal and liverpool in for him.

13.) 30 Jan 2014 16:14:34
Ed, quick question you may be able to answer. wasn't it a few years back arsenal came in with an offer for Lascelles at around 5m? but now the estimation has dropped, correct me if I am wrong. but surely with the first team fottball he has had and the extra experience and the new contract signed last year, shouldn't the value go up?

{Ed034's Note - tey offered £2.5m upfront and £2.5m in add ons

14.) Apologies for the typos in my rumour above.

I don't like the sound of selling our best academy players. On the other hand, if selling finances bringing in the players we need to make the top two - and Wickham's goals may just do that - then selling is a no brainer.

Don't forget, Billy wants cover in every position and a PROVEN goal scorer at this level. Sunderland have cover up front now. We have cover at the back even without Jamaal, especially if Hobbs joins. It makes perfect sense to me. What do you think Ed?

I am just speculating about why they are in talks about Lascelles. I am not speculating about the potential transfer. Apparently the transfer is a real possibility although it may not be until the summer.

15.) How about asking the lad?
He might want to go try his luck in the prem now. lol

It may not be our decision.

16.) If we get promoted this season then we should have no reason to sell him

17.) I think present spending can be 'fixed' as to meet FP, so no need to sell Jamaal.
However a top strike could tip the balance and force Fawaz' hand

18.) If present spending (including wages for Vaughen, two new defensive loanees, Djebbour fee plus his wages) can be "fixed" then that puts Fawaz in the strongest position to put in a large bid for a striker in the knowledge that it can be financed by selling Jamaal. If the bid fails then we can keep Jamaal. Looks like a win-win situation to me.

19.) 30 Jan 2014 17:13:05
Slate me for saying it but I am extremely happy adding Rafik Djebbour and I would like to see Tudguy given a shot. He has done it for us before and would go all out to show what he can do

Redkey

20.) We do not need to sell anyone we can spend what we want

21.) Wish people would stop mentioning FFP, we are obviously ignoring this and so far outside of it that we would have to sell at least 6 players to get anywhere near it. Forest are not concerns with FFP, simple. They don't think it will stack up in court, ed what do you think, so you agree with me?

{Ed034's Note - disagree massively

22.) It would be a HUGE mistake to sell any of our younger players unless your taking stupid money 10 -20 million that should send the right message to prem clubs - as far as players coming in remember apart from the Algerian rocket the rest are loan deals only - RED NINJA

23.) Peaple keep saying billy wants rhodes but I can't see it at all, when billy played halford upfront it shows to me what kind off striker he wants a big tall strong striker so graham or wickham fit billys mode

24.) Why do people keep on saying "the players on loan" don't cost anything regarding FFP?

Players on loan do actually cost money. We will be paying a proportion (or possibly all in some cases) of loan players wages. There is also sometimes a fee for loan players. They cost money and are still part of the equation when FFP rules come into play.

I also completely agree that Wickam or Graham are both players Billy is likely to be keen to sign. If we fail to sign them or similar then the one thing Billy has publicly spoken of the need for has not been added to the squad in January - as per usual!

25.) I look at it in another way. Say Forest go up to the prem it probably puts his tag at 10 mil. A year in them prem he could be the new rio f, then 20 mil+
On the other hand he might wanna go now and possibly go to the World Cup.

26.) I hope the Lascelles / Darlow / Lansbury talk is about establishing current market values. Demonstrating that our players have increased in value by say 15 millions to be realised sometime over the next 3 years if need be allows Fawaz to find ways to balance the books for FFP. Increased value of assetts allows for sale of options to buy or shares perhaps. Given the unsettling effect of Hobbs wage demands, revaluation also provides a basis for contract renegotiations with the 3 named, in the summer.

27.) Did someone really just suggest Lascelles might go to the World Cup?

I'll have some of what hes drinking

Rumour has it that the lack of rumours is down to the fact that Forest. . Wait for it. .

Forest do not need to strengthen. Psycho wants to work with the current squad and is willing to give Dex a chance.

Red Cyclist

1.) I honestly don't think we need any more signings for now. The squad looks talented, versatile and well balanced with useful cover all round. The guys need to blend as a unit and I think we'll see the promising start become a real push for promotion this time. Cab always re-assess in January.

I am told that the reason Billy was advised not to speak to the media is that his contract forbids him to discuss certain things and he knew his job was likely to end. Breach of contract is a way of losing your pay-out if a contract is cancelled.

Don't forget, gross misconduct can also be used to cancel a contract without the customary pay-off. His legal advisers probably explained to Billy that if guilty of deliberately attacking the ref then he can be sacked on the grounds of gross misconduct. A neat "business like" way of Fawaz getting out of the 4 year contract methinks.

Hobbs is ruled out for the season.

This is getting desperate. When is Gomis going to get a game then?

Red Cyclist

{Ed034's Note - gomis has been injured had is now fit. I could see him partnering lascelles Saturday

1.) So let's get this straight then. When we signed Hobbs, Vaughan & Gomis before the last 'window' closed all 3 were injured at the time? Because I can't remember any of them playing for us since they signed.
Also if Vaughan is injured why haven't we sent him back to Sunderland and let them pay his wages (as I believe he is on loan)- as per Leeds have done with Blackstock?

He set up the winning goal for Birmingham. The first bad decision by Dougie?

Good to hear he is playing. We only have Mancienne, Wilson and Laing on contract after the summer and we can't bring big names in.

Does anyone know how Laing is doing at Motherwell? Is he getting starts? IF they don't re-sign Collins and Lascelles is leaving in the summer we need him to be ready.

If you just keep patient there will be an announcement later after he gets his scan results. The club don't know exactly what the damage is until after the scan.
