It seems to me the pairing that link up the best upfront is still Britt and Osborn. Reading should make great opponents as a win should be their only priority, and an open game should give Forest a real chance to get the victory.

Secondly is nobody else concerned we have a new owner accused of match-fixing and looks more apt in a Guy Ritchie movie than in a football ground?

1.) 18 Apr 2017 16:05:42
Sorry DARRYL but Osbourne? . Not for my money.

2.) 18 Apr 2017 16:37:18
Clough and Osborn should sit behind Brereton and Vellios who should be the front two.

3.) 18 Apr 2017 16:39:41
Benny made far too many errors against Cardiff. I would just run Brereton, Clough and Assambolonga through the middle. Ward and Osborne as the wide men. Seem to give Cardiff far too much space in the middle of the park and need Vaughan and Cohen to step up and put in a shift to stop this happening.

4.) 18 Apr 2017 17:07:37
As opposed to our club destroying, lying owner who would seem better placed in a spoof movie?

5.) 18 Apr 2017 18:11:49
It is only if you get caught you are sorry. :' (.

6.) 18 Apr 2017 20:09:34
Got to agree with Bsered
Hello is comes off the bench and forces saves, hits the post or bar and gives us more of a threat yet he still only gets thrown on at the end in desperation?

7.) 18 Apr 2017 20:20:59
Love Samsung auto correct

That's Vellios comes off the bench lol.

8.) 19 Apr 2017 06:26:14
Thing is reddog if vellios played and Britt was on the bench and he had a shocker fans would moan that Britt wasn't playing and then say vellios is a last 20min player.

9.) 19 Apr 2017 10:36:06
Some will moan regardless but in my opinion Britt has been poor when played from the start and BB on the wing is not working
We need goals to stay up and I think Vellios can have a bigger impact
I would look to play him up top with BB and have Clough behind them
Drop Osborne for Mustaffa as he seems to have found his shooting boots and play Ward on the other side.

10.) 19 Apr 2017 11:09:11
We've had three managers this season and not one has paired any two strikers together.
Playing one up front with the midfield we have is and been a mistake all season
Britt is a goalscorer and with someone alongside him will score for fun, he's not a hold up player and this is what makes him look poor.
It's a total waste of talent as where else are the goals going to come from
I'd even like to see all 3 up front that would give the opposition something to think about with 3 at back and wing backs bombing forward.
This one up front system is a disease that I don't like watching unless you have the likes of hazard and likes of him in midfield who score and create goals
We don't have the players to create and score from midfield so why play it
You can say we are unluckily to have lost those 3 games 1nil.
It's not bad luck it's no threat up front and a defence that can't keep a clean sheet.
Just like the three in Bottom of prem don't score enough and always concede
ends in relegation.
60%possession is all well and good 21 shots against Cardiff only 1 on target. Then we are so easy to pick off.
Let the strikers loose at least 2 of them otherwise I fear for us for the first time.

11.) 19 Apr 2017 12:37:50
I agree with 95% of what you have said FF79 apart from the bit about Britt
I am sure he can regain the form given time but time is something we certainly do not have.
Week in, week out I watch him try to steel a yard on the defence only to be constantly flagged off side.
Coming off the bench recently he has shown flashes of the player we knew by picking the ball up and running at goal
I personnaly think he is a gamble we can't afford to take in our current position but I agree 100% we need to be direct and attack.

This is a must win game for Wigan, and I think they will consider their best chance is to break on Forest and send balls over the top for Bogle. Therefore I expect Wigan to allow Forest to have more of the ball. Some added pace in midfield could be the key today.

I expect to see McCormack on the bench, Britt starting and perhaps Ariyibi in, with an appearance by Cohen in the second half. If there is an early goal I can see this being a goal fest.

DARRYL1968

1.) 25 Feb 2017 16:32:27
Well I'm sat here at Wigan wondering why is carayol playing hopefully I'm totally wrong and he has a blinder Coyr 😀.

2.) 25 Feb 2017 18:28:27
Top goal fest!

3.) 25 Feb 2017 18:45:35
Well carayol has his best game in a Forest shirt lol, well another point I suppose better than nothing bring on Brighton now should be interesting.

McGugan is one of three Wednesday players free to leave in January, but is thought to be on high wages at Hillsborough and a loan until the end of the season is perhaps the most likely outcome, should Forest reignite their interest. Thoughts?

DARRYL1968

1.) 22 Jan 2017 10:19:08
In my opinion, exactly what we don't need. Not enough graft and goes missing too often.

2.) 22 Jan 2017 11:23:39
Good player on his day, although his day was probably 3 or 4 years ago.

3.) 22 Jan 2017 16:44:43
Why do most fans always look backwards wanting former players back who cannot get a game in the teams they have moved to because they are inconsistent or nor team players? Of course M

4.) 22 Jan 2017 21:56:31
Because we're desperate ?

5.) 22 Jan 2017 22:20:04
McGugan can score from free kicks and in his last season with BD scored 13. Would have him rather than Bentner or the other overseas players that the summer brought to our sures

Just seen line up for tonight and think in general it is about right, possibly Lolley and not Ribeiro. but to have Lolley to come on for the last 30 minutes could get us over the line. predicting Forest to go two up and Wednesday scoring late to set up a nervy finish. at least 7 points required from these next 4 games based on the opposition. No Arter, means at least we start with 11 players. COME ON YOU REDS!

When Britt left, MW responded well by bringing in Murphy, along with McKay they have become our 2 most regular influential players. With these 2 fit we are heading for a mid table finish or slightly higher. But what if Murphy gets injured? He seems to be the only striker capable of playing the lone striker, and I cannot imagine MW playing 2 up top to compensate for this. I would prioritise a striker with some height, strength and decent goalscoring record for January. It all depends on what budget MW has. Cummings and Clough need strength and experience around them if we are going to see them develop. We clearly lack height and strength and I respect the ethics of MW, but sadly feel he will not bring short or long term success. Also, if Bogdan,30,wishes to come without breaking the bank on wages and Liverpool accept a nominal fee, I suggest this would be a good move for both.

DARRYL1968

1.) 27 Nov 2017 13:54:47
I have to admit I still find the Murphy deal crazy. Paying what we did, and on a 3 year deal, makes no sense. Given he can't play every game now, that's only going to get worse going forward. Cummings hasn't quite made the step up yet, so we definitely need more firepower. So was it good business? On the striker front my answer would be no, as goal scoring is once again an issue for us.

2.) 27 Nov 2017 14:05:12
Totally agree mate. goal stopping and goal getting. our two biggest problems.

18 Nov 2017 12:14:20
Expecting a high press approach from Blues today, their defence is likely to be compressed leaving only space down the flanks and behind. I think our best chance is for Forest to break their offside trap and balls to run onto. I would suggest playing Tyler upfront on his own and Brereton behind him to win aerial battles, flick ons etc. I fear if Forest try to play through Blues all the time their chances will be limited. It will be a big battle especially in midfield and I hope the Reds are up to it. With Sunderland likely to win today and Blues have Boro and Sheff Utd away next two games, this is a must win game for Blues. I hope this will encourage them to come out and play and leave the door open for Forest. Tight game, just one goal will win it, hope its Forest and top 6 tonight!

How about a cheeky bid of 3 mill for Jota from Birmingham in January? Harry brought in 14 players and spent around 14 mill in fees, paid 6 mill plus for Jota. If Blues are looking like relegation fodder in January, do you think a player like Jota will be looking for a move away? Imagine Jota on the right and McKay on the left? Jota is 26,has class and could get even better. Perhaps just that step up in class could be the difference between outside or inside play offs? At the same time could send Cash out on loans, needs a run of games and can't see him getting it at Forest at present.

DARRYL1968

1.) 08 Nov 2017 13:49:49
Cash will get in. Loads of energy. Stronger this year and has a goal in him. Brum will at least want their money back on jota. Just shows spending big don't always make a team. You need the right mix and unity in a squad. Also hope Grant stays and gets a chance next season. Other champ sides looking at him. He could be a good player for us.

For 35 minutes against Hull, Forest struggled to create against a poor Hull team. It needed one piece of magic to change a game where the one dimensional approach of MW was not paying dividends. Similar stats in first half against Reading and sadly not surprised. The injury to Murphy has shown that MW is inept to utilise the squad when necessary. His refusal to put Velios even on the bench leaves the opposition knowing they will not receive an aerial threat. Cummings is 5ft8,Velios is 6ft3.There must be a plan B, the stubborn nature of MW with his tactics and only wishing to use his "own" players does not bode well. Birmingham have main striker Vassell out for season, perhaps they will take Velios in January, the guy deserves a chance of first team football.

DARRYL1968

1.) 01 Nov 2017 13:10:08
Agree daryll. I think a lot on here feel the same. I think velios is better than murphy. May jyst need more encouragement when on the pitch. But its plain thst mr warburton does not rate him. Personally their is no excuse for the manager not making a statement on this. Any player who scored like velios in pre season from the bench and has not made a matchday squad this season well their is something not right. Walker brereton cummings are nowehre near the threat of velios!!!!

2.) 01 Nov 2017 14:28:45
I agree with rutland insofar as I believe it would be fair to expect the manager to give answers to formations and selections etc which leads me on to a real bugbear I have.
After every home game I , like many , tune into Radio Nottingham to listen to the post match comments.
I shouldn't really because it just winds me right up because of the sycophantic attitude of the presenters.
They NEVER EVER seem to ask searching questions ie the vellios situation, the appparent waste of Brererton on the right etc etc .
They must read these forums and others like it and realise there are several burning issues we would like explaining/answering by the manager.
You know we may or may not agree with answers to these questions but at least we know the managers thoughts like it or not.

He is the manager full stop and I accept that fully but I believe such fundamental questions and concerns we have should be addressed

3.) 01 Nov 2017 14:55:33
Marinakis has bought into Warburtons idea of playing tippy tappy football, so until something drastic happens we are stuck with this one dimensional way of playing, the Vellios situation is a puzzler, i think i read somewhere that he had a few mediocre performances in the under 23 so there might be something wrong with his form/attitude.I was at the Burton and Reading games it seemed like 2 different attitudes and approaches by the players, as for Smith he might be a good stopper but a lot of his command and positioning needs a lot of work. I think Warburton should tighten and bolster our defence before looking at more attackers, so come on Mr Warburton let's have some good old Championship football âš½

4.) 01 Nov 2017 15:51:39
To all in this thread,,you are right with your observations. However, If we stay as we are winning and losing in equal measures we will be solid mid table and the owners will accept it. If we slip down the league he will go. Next season if we aren’t challenging for the top six he will be an early casualty.

We shouldn’t look for his removal this season because we are inconsistent as that would be silly as long as we are safe. If we expect more this season we are being a bit unrealistic I think.

Ideally MW will turn us into promotion candidates next season if he doesn’t the axe will fall for sure. Have a little patience and one way or another the right outcome will happen because the owners are astute. I want MW to work out and hope next season is different.

If I had to call it on current ability to get tactics right, be tight at the back and play for draws away, entertain he fans and be consistent he won’t last if this level of consistency goes beyond one full season. Teams that can’t defend seldom succeed in any level of football - it’s just essential that you have clean sheets in your arsenal.

We can debate it all day on here, people can wait in the wings as much as they like when a win or a loss enables the i told you so posts to support the individual dogma of each poster.

That dogma won’t effect the outcome, the owners most likely want mid table stability this season and top 6 challenge next season that’s what will define the length of Mark’s tenure.

5.) 01 Nov 2017 16:27:10
Very sensible post 2 star I'm in agreement with you.
It's that word though"patience"not enough fans have it.
At least the owners are not interfering and that's refreshing.

6.) 01 Nov 2017 18:05:06
2star i see most of your points and can agree with what you say. However, to me warburton is doing it the hard way. He seems the beligerent type and its his way or no way. He has his favourites and relies on good will rather than best players.
If your defence is a tight unit then attack minded players can have a real go, put the ball at risk in the knowledge that your defence can cope. Through the middle and when attacked from wide we are like jelly, retreating into our box where 1 mistake is fatal. His way of predictable tappy tap football is not getting us anywhere fast. I do think we can challenge for top 6 this season as the squad us healthy. But under warburton?????

7.) 01 Nov 2017 19:48:06
We maybe could mate I just don’t know who the manager is that could do that for us. With a little time he might but he won’t this season. Because of what bad shape we were in we’ve perhaps had limited choices and it might take us longer as a consequence. Don’t get me wrong I’m totally 50/50 on if this will work or not, I’m just trying to mix tolerance, patience and rationality for a little while. I do feel as frustrated as anyone though.

I believe there must be a sizeable sell on clause for such a young player. My guess would be around 33%.Therefore Hibs would only sell if they are going to receive at least 2 mill.My guess is 3 mill is enough to tempt Hibs into selling, all will be revealed later!

Totally agree, Huddersfield have got their wish to avoid Fulham, hope they get smashed! If you look closely Huddersfield made 8 changes for strongest team selection to play Blackburn[assuming the match against Fulham was their strongest team]. Not 10 changes but 8 including reserve GK which breaks no rules but is not in the spirit of the game.

I think you make a great point. Reading between the lines I understand that Warburton would be welcomed into the fold to help out Brazil immediately, but is hedging his bets and holding out for other potential offers.
