This is not criticism.

It’s just an observation.

Teams like Brentford have a philosophy- excellent recruitment and a club plan. Recruitment isn’t just about players but also involves the hiring of behind the scenes staff. I don’t know if the Brentford manager Frank has input into signings etc but he seems to work well with their behind the scenes football director. The club has an identity and way of playing. This did not alter from their time in the championship.
For us to succeed we need a coherent plan. An identity and way of playing - and this needs to be a smooth agreement between Cooper and this fellow Wilson. We also need to offer realistic amounts for transfer fees. I have no clue as to who Wilson is other than to think he hasn’t managed to bring anything tangible to the table yet. Our squad is bereft of meaningful talent in some areas and again we have been slow to respond to problems at left back, goalkeeper and central defence. This isn’t helped by the injury crisis. Furthermore it’s worrying that both our strikers had quite lengthy injury spells last season.
Cooper can only work with what he has. If by means of park the bus we collect points then so be it- but this style of play will not help us attract real talent- this being emphasised by how many players have turned us down close season.
So it’s the chicken and egg problem- cooper can’t play better football without better players, but they will not come until we start playing better football. How Wilson solves this problem is beyond me but time is running out to sort things this summers transfer window.
It’s a conundrum and one Big M needs to sort out quickly.

We are progressing along those lines marinakis has said they made mistakes, the problem lies with expectation of better?
To get those type of players isn't quite so easy though.

There isn’t a cohesive plan at forest redfrog - it’s all a bit impulsive.
In the end last seasons spree didn’t turn out so bad bad and as random as it seems was perhaps gave us the best chance of staying up. A reasonable amount of the signings have been ok.

There are strange anomalies like Bade but the coach will never like every player he’s given.

We are trying to sign better quality players this time but for many reasons that’s going to be difficult.

As for a cohesive plan - I don’t feel there is one and certainly not one that compares to Brentford - they really do have an enviable model.

It’s early in the season however the 3 players signed look good additions to the squad. For me there seems more of a plan in place than previous years. We need to be patient and not believe everything that is written about the alleged signings. Personally I think the counter attacking style of play can be fantastic if and it’s a big if we get the right players in. At the moment we are the defending is poor because we are under pressure so much at the back. When we do win the ball back by breaking up play we don’t capitalise enough and either give the play away cheaply or don’t score from the chances created. When Awonyi and Elanga combined against it was awsome to watch. We are on the right track the plan and style of play is in place we just need a few more good signings and we will see the plan come to fruition.

Keep the Faith.

Agree 2Star we have no plan. It all seems scattergun and ad hoc. Just hope there are three worse teams than us this season so we can avoid relegation.

Good post pineapple, in unison with that dispel the myth that all last seasons business was poor - it’s just not accurate at all. I still say we signed two teams, one for Prem survival and one for the champ if the worst happened.

Sometimes impulsive works in any walk of life but from a sustainability perspective the Brentford model feels like the one we should aspire to as well. Our income all in must dwarf theirs yet they always assemble a great team of players, no matter who they sell.

Carlo has a point about spending better, it’s been a thorn for a while, I think last season was done out of necessity and maybe this year we’re are starting to see a realisation that a more sustainable and cohesive model is needed.

Cant be trying to manage two teams one to stay in PL and one to use in EFL. Left with too many not up to PL standard. At the moment we badly need more to enable us to avoid another nail biting relegation battle. It should be easier than last season when we knew it would be a battle and had to bring a record amount of players in. We have gone for over 20 to three, barely replacing those who left. Transfers in been stalled for along time now and it sets up another frantic last few days of the window. Deja vu.
