Birtles has said you can not blame the referee for booking the lad for celebrating with the crowd which resulted in a second yellow card, and therefore a sending off.

He said it is down to the rule makers, the referee was only applying the letter of the law.

There is no blame to to be directed at any separate party, it is down to a combination of issues.

Yes, the rule should not really exist, but with so many unbalanced individuals in society i can see why the rule makers want to wrap players in cotton wool, and off course you do not want players being blamed for inciting crowd trouble.

You have to also say players should know the rules, so if they break them they have to accept the consequences.

For me the biggest problem is as others have said is how the rule is only applied by some referees.

If the rule is to exists either every referee should apply the rule, otherwise they suffer some sort of consequence, or the rule should be dropped.

I know there are some rules that are at the discretion of each referee, but i feel this should not be one of them.

It's perriera fault he got sent off no one else's. You can't run all the way across the pitch and start shoving people and squaring up. Inexperienced player let's hope he learns his lesson.

Did i not say the players should know the rules and accept the consequences if they break them?

How can it be right in one match a player does not get booked for the rule break, in another match a different referee books a player for the same rule break.

So it is not only the players fault.
