Listening carefully to the long interview with MON it is clear that today's managers cannot be like BC in any way. He talked about the Owners, Agents, DoFs, Sporting Directors, Financial Directors, Chairman of Boards and so on all playing their part in the club, and the fact that he was part of a "collective" trying to run the club. He also said that it was a lot more difficult to criticise or lambast players since their Agents could retaliate(Legally) because of the nature of their contracts.
He has walked into this minefield knowingly because he believes he can unite everyone at the club - which sounds an enormous task.
As for the players on the pitch, yes he will be able to ship a few out, but will have to prove both to them, their Agents and the Owner that it is right for both them and the club to do so.
You can forget Carvalho going, but Ward, Clough, Dias and Goncalves, Lam, Fuentes and others surplus to requirements will be sold to reduce numbers. Fox may also go, and I doubt Janko will stay, especially if Byram gets fit.
On the other hand we still need a central midfield playmaker, and we haven't yet given enough time to Yates, Appiah, Edser, Gomis etc.
I believe Dias was used for MON to see what he could do, and he will do the same with Goncalves to see what he is like.
MONs assessment of the team will take several matches not just one, but already he has patched up a shaky defence with a classy centre back - and remember AK reportedly wanted to offload Hefele anyway. Worral will be back in June for pre-season.
MON has to be tactful and diplomatic in both his choices of newcomers, and team selection, but his main problem seems to me to centre round a bloated squad inherited from the last X-number of managers/owner.
He knows how big the task is, and we need once again to be patient as he takes small steps to get things moving in the right direction. He needs all our support and commitment to keep filling the City Ground and backing the team.

Bsered, so are you saying this season is now a write off? Doesn’t sound like there is much hope of a playoff charge in that assessment ?

I agree with you bsered , but it always seems to be a merry go round . New manager then ship out players and bring in new , then repeat the cycle over and over again . The player we are looking for is a Reid type , then we might get somewhere .2star a play off spot for me at the start of the season was a big task , it's even bigger now . I really hope we get there this season , fingers crossed .

Play offs was a target set this season before krankie left it was never going to happen with the dross bought in we will need a small miracle to make play offs and half a new squad of decent players i couldn't imagine going up to the premiership with this team we would need another 17 players for the premiership

I would just point out that there is only 11 days until the transfer and loan window closes during which Forest have one league fixture so any notion that Martin is going to give fringe players a go before deciding on recruitment is just not going to happen!

The owner and DoF will have highlighted who they are able to move on to MON before he took the job so he knows what the budget and player numbers he has to play with.

At least we have an option of sending a few the other way to Greece on this occasion to free up the budget!

Martin has some big calls to make on the training ground in the coming week even before the prospect of Keano coming in to shake them all up?

Byram won't be seen again. Injury prone with glass knees. A real shame as he looked absolute class against newcastle. Really glad thst thosecwho were there yesyerday liked joahan benaloauane. I know he got booked as predicted but my leicester mate did say he is a cultured and tough centre half.

Bsered if you think Martin has several games to assess the squad you will be in for a shock. Are we that naive in thinking he knows nothing about these players. I'm confident he owns a tv and has seen us play many times this season.

To answer your question 2Star: there are 18 matches left, 54 points to be won. We could still get into the top six, depending on other teams' results and our own consistency, but it's a bit of a long shot. In 11 days MON will not be able to bring in more than a couple of players at most, unless he goes for those out of contract or free agents, and it looks like Anigo is i/c that anyway.
I have never been bothered about a top six finish, but wanted at least a top 10 finish. By the end of the season MON will be more able and likely to get the players he wants into the right slots, but at present he doesn't even know what system to use, or what systems other championship teams are using - lots of homework to do.
Nothing in this league is impossible, but I fear we have lost too many matches to state for certain we will be contenders.

After watching us at hull and destroying them,I would have made them odds on for relegation, six wins and a draw on the bounce and they've overtook us,anything can happen in this league.
