I notice Carvalho is still receiving criticism from some quarters. We could point to the fact that he is still reasonably young or we could stress the fact that he is adjusting to living in a foreign country. Maybe even mention the gel word. It could be any one of these or it could be all three, but the fact is for whatever reason the lad is not up to speed yet. For me the jury is out as I genuinely think it is still early days. One thing I do point out how Murphy and Fox have improved after being afforded time to get back on track after their respective struggles. I'm glad we didn't jettison their services!

I think your right about being all 3 my issue is 13.2 mill is a lot for a work in progress player when the same money if not less could of bought a player who wouldn't need time

30 Sep 2018 19:13:56
Murphy and fox had proven track records at this level and we didn’t more than double our transfer record to buy them , why do some think this lad is above criticism, yet are happy to hound Osborn who offers much more input, and were impatient with Brereton who is even younger than carvallhio and cost us nothing.sgetty you got 4 excuses in for him in your 1st 2sentences ,carvallhio shouldn’t be in the starting line up,he is offering very little, the point is we shouldn’t have gambled 13mill on a raw lad who may or may not come good not the lads fault but even Trevor Francis came under a bit of scrutiny when he 1st came,it comes with the ‘ record signing’ territory i’m afraid,

3.) 30 Sep 2018
30 Sep 2018 19:26:40
But 13 million isn't a lot nowadays for an international work in progress. We are just used to spending peanuts for god knows how many years. You have to speculate to accumulate

4.) 30 Sep 2018
30 Sep 2018 19:35:06
13million is peanuts in the prem not the championship, not too many go for much more at this level

5.) 30 Sep 2018
30 Sep 2018 20:32:21
So we got paid peanuts for Assombalonga yes we did him or Carvalho I know which one I would have for 13 million

6.) 30 Sep 2018
30 Sep 2018 20:58:52
Skeg,Assombalonga was 15 million not long after a career threatening injury. If he was under 21 and playing for Portugal he'd be double that.Stevie it depends who your owner is I suppose.

7.) 30 Sep 2018
30 Sep 2018 21:27:12
For how he has played since he’s joined us I wouldn’t rate him at 4 million I stick with my story he was a sweetener for Mendez to get him on side cause there’s no way in this world at this minute in time from what I’ve seen he’s worth 13 million lol

8.) 30 Sep 2018
30 Sep 2018 22:18:06
Skegs the reality is he looks like an academy player. And on performances and frailty we would say no he is not ready yet and put him back in the under23's. this lad is nowhere near a first team player in this league. His first touch alone says he is anxious and when called on to deliver he trips over his own boot laces. The difference when Benny came on was unbelievable. Confident assured and direct. that's what you pay for not a prospect, slight in stature and very unsure.

30 Sep 2018 22:19:24
Perks only 2 players still playing in championship cost more than carvallhio I believe p

Credit where credit is due through I think he find Grabban for the opener.

Carvalho reminds me of ozil there is creativeness but he looks like he's not interested and not putting the work effort in, no doubt he's got quality but I don't think we are going to see it too often, but he is young enough to adapt, i'm more disappointed in dias as he was the one I had heard of and was expecting more from.

Ok so of you had a choice of vydra ofobe Or carvalho with carvalho being most expensive who would you pick

13.) 01 Oct 2018

Vydra

14.) 01 Oct 2018

Different positions,Carvalho isn't a striker

15.) 01 Oct 2018
01 Oct 2018 10:08:52
Correct 2Star, he also laid the pass for Lolly to run in the box to win the last pen. He's only 21 and been here just a couple of months.

Of course he is not the finished article and understand that people can see this but he is an investment and will only get better.

Personally I am really happy the way the squad is shaping up and we have a really strong bench now too.

16.) 01 Oct 2018
01 Oct 2018 10:24:09
Perks so your seriously saying Britt would have cost 30 mill had he come the Under 21 route from Portugal?? Think you’ve blown your own argument out of the water with that 1 mate and if 13mill is peanuts nowadays as you say what does that make the fee we got for Brereton, our under 21 international? He was thrown into a bad side as a teenager.and expected to score goals, some on here gave him loads of stick, yet carvallhio seems beyond criticism English players generally go for more money, so our 7 mill looks a bit sad,my bet is that Brereton will still be plying his trade at a good level when young carvallhio has long gone back to a lower level club in Portugal , having said that I would be very happy to be proven wrong

17.) 01 Oct 2018
01 Oct 2018 10:34:41
Perks because I struggled to find a midfielder who plays in the championship for that money lol we paid striker money for a midfielder

18.) 01 Oct 2018
01 Oct 2018 09:29:22
He's not a midfielder either at the moment Perks

19.) 01 Oct 2018
01 Oct 2018 11:54:17
Statetheobvious great he’s played 3 telling passes and scored 1goal with what is now nearly a quarter of the season gone

20.) 01 Oct 2018
01 Oct 2018 12:53:24
Stevie at the time I said Brereton should be 10 + million.
The point I'm getting at is you pay top dollar for young internationals, some push on some don't. Personally I think he will once he settles in a new country, new club, new team mates and the language barrier becomes less of an issue.

21.) 01 Oct 2018
01 Oct 2018 13:07:13
Some absolutely woeful reviews of Carvalho on this thread. The lad is quality and will get better as he develops. We look so much more dangerous with him in the side, he can find space and passes that others cant. If you have spotted this yet choose another sport, please. His work-rate is decent for a flair player too.

Some of the stuff I read on here is the reason I often don't come back. Dreadful.

22.) 01 Oct 2018
01 Oct 2018 13:21:20
Still going on about bloody brereton, he’s gone, forget about him.

23.) 01 Oct 2018
01 Oct 2018 13:52:15
I cannot believe the criticism on here. Comparing a midfielder to a striker? Yes £13m is a lot, has he justified that price tag yet? No, but it’s only a quarter of a season gone into his long contract. You don’t buy a 21 year old for the talent they possess now, you buy them for their potential. If he doesn’t merit the money at the end of the contract fair enough but personally I think he will. Some of the runs he makes, and positions he takes are very intelligent. We’re in an era where movement off the ball is more important than ever, because for most of the game you don’t touch the ball but you need to be in a position to receive it. Look at Man City and Liverpool, their players are in constant movement. Hazard at Chelsea is forever moving around. Carvalho isn’t up there and probably will never get close but to criticise him after 15 games or however many he’d played is crazy.

24.) 01 Oct 2018
01 Oct 2018 14:08:31
I'm not criticising him I'm questioning ak buying him if there serious about promotion why spend 13 mill on a player for 2 seasons time when they want success now ?

25.) 01 Oct 2018
01 Oct 2018 15:04:52
Carvalhos a class player.

Typical forum politics. Once you've put your cards on the table there's no going back.

Carvalho could run a game single handedly & some on here wouldn't give him an inch.

He's a good player, he doesn't get the ball quick enough or often enough to show his true worth to the team. That will come when the attacking side of our game evolves. Until then we settle for top class defensive rearguards & pick up goals where we can.

We'll laugh about this in a few months time when Carvalhos the player everyones talking about.

26.) 01 Oct 2018
01 Oct 2018 15:30:03
Pdnffc not going on about Brereton, using him as an example of the inflated fee we paid for carvallhio 2 lads who have proven a similar amount in the game ie nothing,CJAY if the day comes when carvallhio runs a game for us I would be happy to admit I was wrong until then I need to borrow your rose tinted glasses,

27.) 01 Oct 2018
01 Oct 2018 16:02:30
Floresta got news for you mate movement off the ball has always been important,Steve Sutton we that’s the point when he develops ,surely in the championship you don’t pay this sort of money and wait a couple of years for a player to develop, surely the best judges of his potential were benfica who’s team he couldn’t get in and thought he had so much potential they got rid,and if your going to go on a forum and expect everyone to have the same opinion as you then words fail me ,no different opinions no forum

28.) 01 Oct 2018
01 Oct 2018 16:29:32
Floresta by the way I wasn’t comparing a midfielder and a striker as players I was compare the fees for 2youngplayers with similar cv’s

29.) 01 Oct 2018
01 Oct 2018 19:56:05
Steve, try removing your mud tinted glasses and you really don't have to keep defending your points if that's what you think, love you.

They guy has obvious talent and will be an integral part of our success here.

30.) 01 Oct 2018
01 Oct 2018 20:14:28
Well that was a thread and a half boys!At the end of the day(oops) it's all rhetoric. I say we should let the lad do his talking on the pitch!

01 Oct 2018 22:22:11
Statetheobvious defending your points is what a discussion is all about isn’t it ?and discussion is what this board is all about isn’t it ? Suppose we could all be nodding dogs and agree with each other,

Statetheobvious just replying to posts anti my point, that’s the whole idea of a debate mate, you seem more concerned with why I am replying than the content of my replies lol
