A good hard fought win. With four of our home-grown batch of talent playing a vital part.
Worrall was rightly Man on the Match, but Osborn, Walker and Brererton all made great contributions. I was surprised to see Osborn substituted.
If anything yesterday gave a perfect example of why we should not play route one football. We do not have the players to play that way and when we tried to play that way it resulted in us losing the ball.

A long pass is fine, speculative punt up the pitch is not.
Another encouraging sign again yesterday was the strength of our bench.
A good three points and more experience for a great crop of young talent.
Passing is the key short or long

Hopefully we will make the right additions in Jan to enable us to mix it up a bit and get a set of players who can diversify and adapt to different tactics.

These players appear to only be able to play one way and there not consistent at doing it well either I can’t see how they will ever be good enough to be anything other than mid table , no issue with that this season.

Whatever tactics are deployed in the future I’d suggest at least six players will be needed to get any consistency

Great post Wishy couldn't agree more. Good to see a bit of pace down the flanks Walker was always a threat.Bridcutt was man of the match for me did a lot of work defensively and found time to slot Brereton in for his goal when everyone else was tiring. The long ball should only be used when there's nothing else on and we need to clear our lines (like Mancienne last week v Ipswich should have done!). All in all a good win against a team that looked twice our size. I remember when I played rugby as a young man we used to measure the size of our opponents in comparison to our biggest player a Welsh lad called Geraint. So their prop for example was one and a half Geraints. Likewise Bolton were all at least one and a quarter Murphy's!

Just out of interest 2Star which 6 players would you bring in and which 6 players would they replace?

Would the 6 players you plan to bring in replace any of the players involved yesterday?

I think we need:
A keeper, a CB, centre midfielder, left back, and striker. Only five not six. I don’t share your view that there were positive signs yesterday. That said I’ve no isssue with a nothing season bit feel we need to get some additions but. And use the 2nd half of the Season to build for next year.
I think there are a few camps on here but two ibsloy are .
Those accepting it is work in progress but convince themselves it’s coming together

THose who accept it’s work in progress but struggle to see how the current tactics and collection of players will move us forward in future seasons

So 2 Star
You see no improvement this season in Osborn, Smith, Walker, Brererton, or Worrall? I see vast improvement in all 5.
Having said that I do see Hobbs, Vellios and Henderson, leaving and Vaughan playing a less significant role.

As a bit of a curve ball I would not be surprised to see Cummings returning north of the border, especially with the emergence of Walker.

Sorry wishey, I didn’t answer your question about who I’d bring in. That’s the managers job to find players who can improve us where we have obvious weaknesses. After almost a year in the job and sticking quite rigidly to a way of playing I would hope he has a list of targets who can improve the team.

Players like Murphy, Bridcutt, McKay, Dowell, Cummings, Boukalakis and Darikwa have all improved the strength of the squad. I trust the manager and the man he insisted on bringing in as the head of recruitment to find the player to continue the improvement.
If you can’t see that improvement we see things differently.

I do not see how Darikwa improves the squad, and as good as Dowell is Clough could possibly do his job given the chance.

Umm think we might be saying the same thing. No issue with who he’s brought in (apart from Darikwa on this seasons offerings) but I think he knows he is only half way there and I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t know what he needs to do next to take us onwards next year. I also think next season many supporters will be disappointed if we aren’t much stronger than we are this season. I’m happy win a season of trial and error but would hope for some identifiable continuous improvement next year or we will be mid table for many seasons.

Grey and red fan

Darikwa is better going forward than Eric.
Darikwa has made Lichaj is a better player since his arrival.
Darikwa is better than our third choice right back.
He has been here 5 minutes, I am not about to right him off as the flop some of you seem only to quick to label him

Darikwa may be better going forward than Eric, but Darikwa only knows how to go forward, defensive duties are a after thought for him.

Eric is stronger all round than Darikwa, there is a difference between saying someone has not improved the team, and writing them off, some do take time to settle.
