Sir Brian usually preferd a big rough No.5 eg Lloyd ,Young, Hart, Foster, Needham ,,he liked them to head it and kick and let others play the football ,I think there,s one at the club of this ilk now just needs discipline adding to his game ,he also liked them to go up the other end and nod one in ,got one now ,up to the coaches to get player ,s to do their main job!

Time has moved on. Centre backs now have to do much more than that, perhaps if our left and right full backs stopped more attacks we would be in a better place than we are.

Different game now,if you were in trouble as a defender you could just pass it back to the goalkeeper to pick up.
They could also tackle from behind,Different game to that era,a lot of tackles that went in in those days would produce a red card now days.
I'll never forget the tackle physco did on Ted McMinn at city ground,if you did that now you'd get a 3 month ban.
Like I say different game

Ff79 pearce's tackle was right infront of me. It seemed an eternity for ted to land after pearce uprooted him. Now that was some game😂

He didn't tackle him really,it was an assault and he went off,he didn't fancy anymore and only a yellow.
It's one reason you can't compare modern football to those days,

On that note Rutland best games I've ever been to with forest were cologne at home in the European cup, battling back for a 33 draw and the charity shield win over Ipswich 5 nil that was pure football.
Anyone with their best?
Worst game I've been to was European cup final in Munich, not the football,The journey.
Wallace Arnold coaches from Clifton pick up peacock, two days before the game.
Problem in London with one coach same day,on ferry got to Calais were the forth driver was supposed to be waiting for us,he was asleep in Dover ,another delay, tacos sorted and only three drivers.
Puncture on one coach at German border,no jacks no spares.
On coach with just one driver who drove non stop to get us there just at kick off, peeing in bottles and out the skylights.
We won driver said straight back,we said stuff you,get some sleep we ain't getting on a coach with you down mountain passes,
Had a great night in Munich got the coach at daylight, got as far as 50 miles from Paris and got a puncture, eventually got home.
Other coach never made it got as far as Frankfurt and got another puncture, watched game in hotel they were put up in and flew home.
Did get a full refund though.

Ff79 i played football most saturdays back then and the one game that stuck in my mind was the league cup final when wolves beat us one nil. I playex up front with a scottish lad who looked like a toothless rod stewart, hard as nails. We were lethal together up front and were telepathic scoring for fun. But we hated each other. His dad always watched from the side and had a radio and kept my strike partner updated with big matches. Half way through the second half big malc grabbed me and danced like we had just scored. I said wtf he whispered in my ear " Andy Gray has just scored for wolves and theirs only 2 mins left " he knew how to upset me but it made him happy. We finally became good friends but that sticks in my mind lol

Was at that final,The worst one for me,not just the cockup goal and result, more the wolves fans, idiots just wanting a scrap, fighting everywhere all round the ground.

Great story FF79, very entertaining! Would be great to have something like that to look forward to again in the future!
